Trump Administration Begins Deportation Operations In Sanctuary City

The Trump administration started immigration raids in Los Angeles on Saturday, the New York Post reports.

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously voted in 2024 to establish the City of Los Angeles as a “Sanctuary City.”

From the New York Post:

Details of the LA raids were scarce as of Saturday afternoon, but sources said migrants rounded up there were being held in ICE detention centers in California pending deportation.

Officials are expecting the sites to fill up quickly, and the feds are scouting for more space to hold migrants, the sources said.

ICE agents were also spotted in West New York, NJ, cuffing an unidentified Hispanic male and putting him in a van without asking questions, the Hudson Post reported.

Executive orders issued by Trump dramatically loosened restrictions on how immigration officers can conduct deportation raids, removing bans for searching courthouses, churches and other “sensitive” sites that illegal migrants have historically holed up in to be shielded from federal authorities.

The White House will be using military planes every day to help carry out what Trump and “border czar” Tom Homan have vowed will be the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, ABC News reported.

ICE on Friday reported arresting 593 criminals in the U.S. illegally and lodging 449 “detainer” requests with local authorities, asking them to turn over migrants targeted for deportation.

The Trump administration has already started deportation flights to transport illegal migrants out of the country.

ABC News reports:

The Trump administration is planning to use military aircraft every day to help carry out what President Donald Trump and his “border czar,” Tom Homan, have promised will be the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, Homan told ABC News.

In an interview with ABC “This Week” co-anchor Martha Raddatz, Homan said that only days after Trump took office, the U.S. government for the first time ever used military aircraft to transport migrants back to their home country, and it will now be a daily occurrence.

According to U.S. officials, the U.S. military on Thursday flew more than 150 migrants to Guatemala on two separate flights. But Homan made clear that the military flights are just one part of a much broader plan.

He claimed that – unlike under the Biden administration – Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are now free to arrest any of the estimated more than 11 million immigrants in the country without legal status, not just those identified as priorities for deportation for being convicted criminals or other public safety threats.
