Riley Gaines Blasts WNBA Player Over 'F*** Donald Trump' Shirt: 'So You're Telling Me...'

The WNBA has been the subject of many more headlines than usual now the breakout star Caitlin Clark is in the league.

But some other players have managed to attract attention, though not always for their achievements on the court.

One player, DiJonai Carrington, who was previously known for giving Clark a black eye in a mid-game collision, subsequently sparked backlash for wearing a shirt with a profane message aimed at President Donald Trump.

Swimmer and political commentator Riley Gaines reacted to the wardrobe choice by bringing up Carrington’s prior encounter with Clark:

So, you’re telling me the same girl who deliberately gouged Caitlin Clark in the eye then laughed about it also wore a hoodie that said, “The F*** Donald Trump Tour”?!

Fox News provided additional coverage of Gaines’ reaction:

Carrington has said she didn’t intentionally poke Clark in the eye and that she wasn’t laughing about the incident. But Gaines felt no reservations about implying Carrington’s poke at Clark was intentional and that she laughed about it afterward.

Gaines followed up with another critique of the Sun player and even brought LeBron James into the conversation.

“What has Donald Trump done to make your life worse? Keep LeBron off the court,” Gaines wrote on X in response to a photo of Carrington wearing the shirt.

Carrington provoked Clark fans prior to the eye-poking incident with multiple statements berating Clark and her fan base.

During a game in June, Carrington fouled Clark after Clark received an inbound pass from teammate Kristy Wallace. Clark caught the pass and started toward the basket. Carrington was late getting to Clark due to a screen by Aliyah Boston, and she bumped into Clark.

Of course, Gaines is most closely associated with her ongoing push to keep biological males out of female sports:

She recently spoke out against Democratic lawmakers who opted against supporting a bill that would ensure women and girls can play sports without the fear of competing against male athletes.

According to the Daily Mail:

The revolutionary act received a 218-206 vote as all Republicans voted in its favor along with just two Democrats, Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez.

North Carolina Representative Don Davis, a Democrat, voted present. All others voted against the act.

During the ruling, Gaines, 24, who leads a lawsuit against the NCAA for its stance allowing trans athletes to compete as women, delivered a blistering message to the 206 ‘shameful’ Democratic supporters.

‘We heard of things like genital exams, we heard that girls would be asked to show what’s in their underwear, we heard that they would have to show internal and external anatomy, inspections, Taliban-like enforcers, hire predators to peak at enforcers on and on and on, weird fearmongering about predators, but that’s what Democrats do best,’ Gaines said.

Gaines also criticized those who said the bill was ‘a waste of time.’

‘I heard that this bill is a waste of time, and let me tell you the message I received when I heard that, it’s that I am a waste of time,’ Gaines said.
