The drones are not gone, though things have quieted down.
The press they are receiving has dropped considerably partly due to a changing news cycle and a fast-moving first week of the new Trump Administration.
There is also the possibility that the drone activity has dropped off somewhat — though the reports are certainly still there, and the feeling of less activity could simply be a saturated news environment creating the illusion of less activity.
Regardless, I would like to go back to a moment we probably all remember, and move forward from there.
Back in mid-December, President Trump started weighing in on the drone situation. It had become known that they were routinely sighted over his New Jersey property, and everyone wanted answers!
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shared a clip of President Trump around that time giving a presser from Palm Beach during which he canceled a planned trip to Bedminster, NJ because of the overflights.
That news caused ripples simply because President Trump was obviously not taking the threat lightly.
President Trump is canceling his own trip to Bedminster because the drones are flying over his property. This tells you all you need to know.
President Trump said what I said last week. Our government knows what these drones are doing.

The confidence with which President Trump responded at the time, having spent 4 years as the Commander in Chief, seemed to be a good hint that his assessment of the military and Biden having answers which they simply didn’t want to share was likely accurate.
Before that point, I assumed there was a good likelihood that President Trump had the answers, divulged via his daily intel briefings as the President Elect, but was precluded from divulging those secrets as he did not yet hold the power to declassify information.
But once I saw that last clip, it was obvious he didn’t have the answers.
The fact that he was willing to sound speculative, but also his choice of phrasing: “Something strange is going on, for some reason they don’t want to tell the people…”, seemed to suggest the President was being genuine in his speculative reasoning.
About 3 weeks after that press conference, the drones were still going strong, still routinely witnessed over President Trump’s property in New Jersey.
Check out this video from January 4th that captured several alleged drones over Bedminster:

Just 5 days later, President Trump would give another press conference while meeting with the GOP Governors at Mar-a-Lago.
Here’s that video, in which he and several Republican Governors talk about the lingering occurrences and express the hope that the federal government would get to the bottom of things and level with the American people.
🚨 TRUMP: "I'm going to give you a report on drones about one day into the administration because I think it's ridiculous that they're not telling you about what's going on with the drones."

To hear Gov. Glenn Youngkin express his concern for Quantico and the Naval Special Warfare fighters housed in his state was unnerving.
But Governor after Governor reiterated the same thing, seemingly painting a picture of much more widespread ‘drone’ activity than many of us were aware of.
It strikes me as odd that President Trump had apparently not been able to get answers during this time period, although he was now privy to the same presidential level daily intel brief as Biden.
Did Biden not know? Or did he know, and was simply unwilling to divulge the answers with President Trump?
I’m still asking myself that question now.
Things started to move much more quickly after that, as just 5 days before the inauguration Georgia’s Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene once again made headlines when she reported that her plane was re-routed to land from a different direction because drones “over the White House” were complicating his approach to land the plane.

In the same clip, she referenced for the first time information that I had only recently become aware of — that the largest Chinese drone manufacturer had just disabled its geofencing firmware for the geographic area of the United States.
In practical terms, that meant there would no longer be a built-in programmed list of “no-go” areas in the United States for these drones, which brings us to the eerie prediction I alluded to in the headline as explained by Dr. Will Austin in a Fox News report:
“It clearly had taken a dark turn where people had gotten really anxious about what might be in the sky above their houses or above their heads,” Dr. Will Austin, a national drone expert and the president of Warren County Community College, told Fox News Digital.
As the government, according to President Trump, continues to investigate the first inundation of drone sightings, Austin believes that the public is about to see another major influx of sightings due to a change in the firmware of a major drone manufacturer.
“There has been a significant development,” Austin said, adding that DJI, a Chinese-based manufacturer for many of the drones registered in the United States, changed its firmware this month to remove its built-in geofencing feature, which blocked flight in restricted areas.
“If you were flying a DJI drone . . . and you came to an airport . . . the manufacturer had put a kind of an invisible barrier around the border at the airports. Your drone would stop flying. That all ended on Jan. 13. Now it’s up to the individual user or each pilot to be in control,” Austin explained.
“I’m predicting you’re going to see a lot of drone incursions . . . that’s my biggest fear now.”
DJI told Fox News Digital that it “remains committed to promoting safe and responsible flying practices. The recent GEO update aligns with the principle advanced by aviation regulators around the globe – including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) – that operators are responsible for complying with rules.”
Drone operators will now see official FAA airspace data on where they can and can’t fly, DJI added, and will receive in-app warnings if they are flying near FAA-designated controlled airspace.
The company also said that it voluntarily implemented geofencing in 2013, and noted that the FAA now has Remote ID requirements that serve as the equivalent of a “license plate” for drones..
Flyovers of sensitive areas within the United States would now be easy, whereas before it would have been almost impossible simply because the drones were programmed not to fly over our sensitive sites.
Just a few days before President Trump’s inauguration… China did this. And the security profile for the inauguration changed drastically as a result, likely playing into the move from an outdoors event to the Capitol Rotunda.
Breaking from @hntrbrkmedia: China’s DJI, the world's largest drone manufacturer, has disabled U.S. geofencing on its drones, enabling flights over airports, military bases, and no-fly zones.

OSINTtechnical was the first place I saw the news break about the disabled geofencing.
But word spread quickly after that, and more information regarding the situation slowly trickled in.

Just a few days later, two days before the inauguration, President Trump’s convoy arrived at the airport to fly from Florida to DC.
Watch the SUV’s closely, as most are outfitted with large antennas identified as part of an anti-drone countermeasure system.
Footage of Trump’s arrival in DC showed his motorcade that with anti-drone technology.

Obviously the threat was being taken seriously at the time, though it seemed as though President Trump still didn’t have answers as to the origin or intent of the so-called drones.
Another question the report of the disabled geofencing raised was simply… if the FAA had new technology and a “remote ID requirement” which would enable a drone’s so-called “license plate” to be read, and identified…
Why was that not happening? Are the “drones” such that they do not have these digital ‘license plates’? Or was the technology being jammed?
Or did they know… and as President Trump iterated, the Biden Administration simply didn’t want to tell us?
Fast-forward a few days after the inauguration, and although news of the drones was almost completely gone from the news cycle — taken up by the massive cascade of Trump Administration actions — the drones were still there.
Credible reports of sightings were still coming in.
I will include a personal note here. An object flew over our house within this same timeframe, witnessed and heard by my wife and children.
My wife said it sounded like an enormous passenger plane flying at altitude, but was incredibly low, and much too slow — just like many videos and eyewitnesses report.
Also, we don’t live in New Jersey. We live in Texas. So… there’s that.
Keep in mind, just prior to the inauguration President Trump promised to deliver a very quick answer to the drone mystery “about one day into the Administration”.
True to his word, this was the scene hours after the inaugural ceremonies as President Trump signed countless Executive Orders, and remembered his drone promise.
Reporter: Is there anything we should be worried about with the New Jersey drones?
Trump: “I would like to find out what it is and tell the people… in fact, I'd like to do that. Could we find out what that was, Susie? Why don't we find out immediately?”

To his credit, he immediately directed the Ice Maiden herself, Susie Wiles, to get an answer to the drone question for release to the public.
So, that was that — we would soon find out the answers we had been waiting for all this time.
Except… we didn’t. And here we are, still waiting; wondering if the report Susie was tasked to retrieve was found, went missing, or was somehow forgotten about all together.
@SusieWiles , President Trump has instructed you on Monday for a briefing on the drones. Today is Wednesday already. I don‘t want to sound impatient, but the president has stated to do so asap.

That has been the go-to meme gif shared across social media by all of us trying to wait patiently for President Trump to make good on this promise, as he has made good already on so many others.
But still… we are waiting. And the possibility is starting to creep in that we may, once again, fall victim to the secrecy of the government on this issue — even with President Trump sitting in the White House, as The Hill reported:
President-elect Trump is vowing to provide the public with transparency on the recent uptick in mystery drone sightings, suggesting information would be available “about one day” into his second term.
“I’m going to give you a report on drones about one day into the administration,” Trump told a room of Republican governors at his Mar-a-Lago resort Thursday evening. “Because I think it’s ridiculous that they are not telling you about what is going on with the drones.”
Officials have suggested the sightings include a combination of “lawful” drones, other aircraft and stars.
Trump responded to the sightings, calling for the drones to be shot down and arguing the Biden administration just wanted to keep the public “in suspense.”
“Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge. I don’t think so!” he wrote on Truth Social in mid-December. “Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, [shoot] them down!!!”
A week in to the new administration, and still no word from President Trump since he sent Susie on that fact-finding mission from the Oval early on.
People are starting to ask questions on social media. People are starting to ask the question — is this the one thing that even President Trump can’t get an answer about?
And so… we wait. And wait. And wait.
While both the mystery and the potential threat remains, for now.
