Bill Maher, a left-leaning comedian and host of HBO’s “Real Time,” has become an unusual ally for conservatives on certain topics over the past few years.
He has spoken out forcefully against the left’s embrace of woke social policies, open borders, and other controversial ideas, even at the expense of alienating some of his most ideologically extreme fans.
Most recently, he declared that Democrats committed so many unforced errors in their campaign against President Donald Trump that they ended up contributing to his growing popularity.
According to The Hill:
“Here’s how bad the Democrats f***** up: Trump is cool now,” Maher declared during a Friday episode of Max’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
There is ample statistical and anecdotal evidence that Trump entered office with considerably higher support across demographic lines than he had following his 2017 inauguration.

Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith was among Maher’s guests on the episode and offered a similarly harsh assessment of the Democratic Party.
According to WZTV:
“The man was impeached twice, he was convicted on 34 felony counts,” Smith said. “And the American people still said ‘He’s closer to normal than what we’re seeing on the left.”
The 57-year-old ESPN star acknowledged that Democrats seemed to not be interested in what the majority of voters were concerned about, rather they focused on “issues that pertain to less than 1% of the population.”
Smith also said that he thinks voters identify more with Trump.
ADVERTISEMENT“They look at you and say, ‘Hey, we get where you’re coming from, you relate to us,” Smith stated.
“The Democrats went in another direction and Trump capitalized on it,” he added. “Basically, he played everyone like a fiddle and has won re-election. That’s the bottom line.”
Meanwhile, Trump has been laser focused on keeping his campaign promises on immigration and other key issues during a busy first week in office:
