A United Airlines flight from Lagos, Nigeria to Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia made an emergency landing after experiencing mid-air technical issues.
The aircraft returned to Lagos and made an emergency landing.
“Four passengers and two crew members seriously injured after United Airlines flight makes emergency return landing in Lagos due to a ‘technical issue’. UA613, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, initially bound for Washington Dulles International Airport, had 245 passengers, eight flight attendants, and three pilots on board,” Breaking Aviation News & Videos wrote.
“We had already been served our meals when the plane lost pressure and dropped. We noticed a sharp descent. I hit my head on the ceiling because of the impact. The sharp descent happened three times, causing some people to sustain injuries,” one passenger reportedly said.
“Onboard the aircraft were 245 passengers and 11 crew members. While all individuals disembarked safely, four passengers and two crew members sustained serious injuries, while 27 passengers and five crew members suffered minor injuries. The FAAN rescue team responded promptly, ensuring the injured received immediate medical attention,” the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria said in a statement.

Per CNN:
Flight 613 made an emergency landing back in Lagos where the six injured people on board were taken to a nearby hospital, the airline said. They have all since been released, United Airlines spokesperson Leslie Scott told CNN.
ADVERTISEMENTIt is unclear what caused the in-flight jolt; United Airlines has said the cause was not severe turbulence, and that it is “working with aviation authorities in the US and Nigeria to understand the cause.”
Flight data accessed from FlightRadar24 shows Flight 613 descending abruptly from cruising altitude approximately 93 minutes after takeoff.
The same aircraft, flying from Lagos to Washington’s Dulles International Airport had previously been diverted on Tuesday, according to FlightRadar. Altitude data from that flight showed a rapid descent of 1,000 feet about 89 minutes into the flight. It is unclear whether the diversions of UA613 are related.
Friday’s flight was carrying 245 passengers, eight flight attendants and three pilots, according to United, which said it is currently working to place passengers on other flights.
