Republican House Rep. Thomas Massie is urging President Trump to pardon “national hero” Edward Snowden.
Of course, Edward Snowden went down in history for infamously leaking information about the NSA’s unconstitutional surveillance of the American people.
This news comes on the heels of President Trump issuing a pardon to Ross Ulbricht, founder of the Silk Road dark website.
After running a poll asking followers on X whether President Trump should pardon Snowden, Massie made this statement on X:
President Trump should pardon Edward Snowden. He is a national hero for exposing egregious violations of the Constitution by the Bush and Obama administrations. pic.twitter.com/RQNBBeVxv6

Many others are echoing Rep. Massie’s calls to pardon Snowden.
Here are some responses on X:
Snowden is the enemy of the Bush clan and the Obama administration.
A pardon is common sense. https://t.co/uYJxck8gCZ

Snowden is a hero and deserves a full pardon, plus a medal.

Trump should absolutely pardon Snowden, he’s a whistleblower who exposed government overreach and violation of our constitutional rights.
He deserves our gratitude for shedding light on the abuses of power by previous administrations, it’s time to correct this injustice.…

Podcaster Lex Fridman supports the idea and said he would love to do a podcast with both Edward Snowden and Ross Ulbright:
.@Snowden should be pardoned.
Congrats to @RealRossU !
I hope to do a podcast with both.

However, not everyone is in support of the idea.
Sorry, but this is a hard no. I don’t understand this side of Republicans. Snowden profited materially from Russia for the secrets he stole and then ran. If he really cared about the US, he’d have gone thru the proper whistleblower protocols.

Wow. This is a based take, however, I don’t feel like Snowden is safe to come back. He and his wife are naturalized now. They have two children born in Russia, learning Russian. I can’t imagine why he would return.
