Yesterday, I really stirred up a lot of trouble…and I wasn’t even trying!
Usually I can predict when I’m going to stir up some controversy, like when I tell the Catholics they should really stop Praying to Mary, or when I tell the Freemasons that they’re a Luciferian organization.
Those are instant angry hornet nests when you rattle those cages.
But yesterday I was merely covering the news and I reported factually that President Trump did not place his hand on the Bibles when he was sworn in:
JUST IN: President Trump Does NOT Place His Hand On The Bible While Taking The Oath of Office!
I didn't place a value judgment on it, and I offered four plausible reasons why that might have happened.
But boy oh boy did my email inbox get flooded with messages!
Some hate mail...
Some comments....
Some theories....
Some telling me I was wrong and that he did put his hand on the Bible....
It really ran the gamut.
In fact, I'll show you a few.
This was perhaps the most common comment, telling me that it was John Roberts fault because he "started early":
Fair enough, although I'm not sure how "starting early" prevents President Trump from moving his hand.
The pictures and video do show Melania standing right there holding the two Bibles so it's not as if she missed the whole thing.
This one from Nelson (last name withheld for privacy) had the same basic comment but he was very angry:
Gee, I thought I did report the truth, didn't I?
The truth is, he did not place his hand on the Bible during the swearing in.
You may not like that, you might be offended by that, it might be throwing you into some severe cognitive dissonance, but that is factually what happened.
It's also very newsworthy, so that's why we reported it.
Dennis (last name withheld) said it was "BS" and then told me to "get off my high horse":
See?
So much hate for merely reporting factually on what happened, I really did not expect this!
Thomas (last name withheld) said he will "never read another article from my site" unless I correct the record:
It's a bit unclear what record we need to correct because we reported accurately about what happened, but in any event Thomas (whoever you are) is no longer a reader apparently and we will miss him dearly.
RIP Thomas.
Others sent me James 5:12 which reads: "12' But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath, but let your "Yes" mean "Yes" and your "No" mean "No," that you may not incur condemnation."
Fair enough on that one as well, but it's interesting and a bit confusing why he would use the Bibles in 2016 but not in 2024.
I don't always have all the answers, but I do know when something is interesting and this story is interesting!
Perhaps in his newfound faith President Trump made a conscious decision due to James 5:12 to not place his hand on the Bible?
I think that's probably unlikely, but maybe so!
Karen (last name withheld for privacy) perhaps had the most novel theory of all, sending me this:
Points for creativity on that, but I have looked at every video and picture and I do not see President Trump getting "one finger" on the Bible.
The cognitive dissonance ran deep with this story, oh my!
I appreciate all the comments and passion, I really do, but do you mean to tell me the most powerful man in the world get a sliver of one finger on the Bible and then was just so paralyzed by the moment that he couldn't readjust to get his whole hand on there? Again because Roberts started early?
Really?
I'm sorry but that doesn't "pass the smell test" as we sometimes say.
Ok, so now I want to end with something I came across today that I thought was really good.
Credit to my friend DOTR for posting this where I first saw it and credit to the creator of the video Destiny Rezendes on X.
I think this is a great video with a new angle no one has considered yet....
I also note that she confirms two things early in the video that might be instructive for those of you who sent me so much hate mail: (1) she confirms that no, he did not put his hand on the Bible. Not a finger. Not a thumb. Not a sliver of a fingernail. It didn't happen. (2) she talks about being "emotionally compromised by information" yesterday and I think that's what happened to so many people who emailed me in a tizzy telling me they will never read another article if I don't immediately correct the record! What Destiny did was much wiser....she stopped, collected herself, and looked at it rationally the next day, digging in and doing some research.
And here's what she found:

FULL TRANSCRIPT:
So there you go!
Once again, it appears President Trump had done his homework and handled himself with absolute perfection!
Perhaps not a mistake or oversight at all, perhaps very intentional and very smart to protect such a valuable artifact.
President Trump is always 5 steps ahead, isn't he?
And now in case you missed it, here was my original report yesterday:
JUST IN: President Trump Does NOT Place His Hand On The Bible While Taking The Oath of Office!
A major scandal is brewing (if you ask some people) or it's much ado about nothing (if you ask others)....
I'll leave it to you to decide which camp you fall into, but let me give you the cold, hard facts first.
And those would be that President Trump just took the Oath of Office and while doing the swearing in ceremony Melania was standing right next to him holding two Bibles but he did not place his hand on them at any time.
We'll discuss whether it's a big deal or not, but the fact remains this hasn't happened since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945, which would be 80 years ago!
