President Trump To Visit Multiple Disaster-Stricken Areas In First Trip Of Second Term

A White House official told the New York Post that President Trump is scheduled to visit both California and North Carolina on Friday.

The visits to the disaster-stricken areas are Trump’s first trips of his second term.

Although Trump hinted he would visit California, he didn’t give prior indication he would visit North Carolina this week.

From the New York Post:

Trump has spoken about both disasters as evidence of failures by Democratic leadership. He mentioned North Carolina, where 200,000 people were impacted by housing damages following the deadly September hurricane, in his inaugural address Monday.

“Our country can no longer deliver basic services in times of emergency, as recently shown by the wonderful people of North Carolina, who’ve been treated so badly, and other states that are still suffering from a hurricane that took place many months ago,” Trump said in his address.

He then noted the California fires, saying, “we are watching fires still tragically burn from weeks ago without even a token of defense.

“They’re raging through the houses and communities, even affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in our country — some of whom are sitting here right now. They don’t have a home any longer. That’s interesting. But we can’t let this happen. Everyone is unable to do anything about it. That’s going to change.”

“Trump is set to travel to North Carolina to assess hurricane recovery efforts and to California to survey wildfire damage in the LA area on Friday, marking his first official trip since returning to the White House. The visits follow a whirlwind first week, where Trump signed dozens of executive actions hours after his inauguration,” Mario Nawfal wrote.

WRAL reports:

FEMA recently announced that residents and families receiving hotel lodging while looking for alternative housing will be allowed to stay in hotels until May 25. The move came after dozens were kicked out of hotels despite FEMA extending a previous deadline.

Trump won North Carolina for a third time in 2024. He visited Swannanoa to view hurricane damage on Oct. 21 and made at least 14 trips to the state in 2024.

In December, then-Vice President-elect JD Vance visited Fairview, saying that those affected by the storm hadn’t been forgotten.

“When this administration changes hands in 45 days, we’re going to do everything that we can to help people rebuild, to get them back on their feet, to bring some commerce back to this area, but, most importantly, to allow people to live in their homes,” Vance said, according to The Associated Press.
