Vivek Ramaswamy Officially Steps Down from DOGE, Here’s The Real Reason Why

Yesterday, we brought you a report about Vivek Ramaswamy stepping down from the Department of Government Efficiency, which he was originally slated to co-chair with Elon Musk.

At the time, we could not confirm whether it was fact or fiction.

But today, shortly after President Trump was sworn in as 47th President of the USA, a spokesperson for the Trump adminstration confirmed that the rumors were true and that Vivek officially stepped down from DOGE.

However, it’s not for the reason that the original CBS News report had implied — namely that Ramaswamy had “worn out his welcome” with staffers.

Even though Vivek had faced controversy over the H1-B visa issue a few weeks back, this appears to just be the media trying to sow seeds of division (no surprise there!)

It’s actually for an entirely different reason: Vivek’s political ambitions.

Vivek intends on running for governor of Ohio, and due to the structure of non-governmental DOGE, he could not be involved.

Marketwatch explained:

Billionaire entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who was tapped alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk to run Trump’s commission to “dismantle government bureaucracy,” is stepping down to run for governor of Ohio instead.

There had been reports over the weekend that the 39-year-old former Republican presidential candidate was planning to leave the “DOGE” commission, but he made it official hours after Trump took office on Monday.

“Vivek Ramaswamy played a critical role in helping us create DOGE,” Anna Kelly, a spokesperson for the commission, said in a statement. “He intends to run for elected office soon, which requires him to remain outside of DOGE, based on the structure that we announced today. We thank him immensely for his contributions over the last 2 months and expect him to play a vital role in making America great again.”

NBC News also reported:

Vivek Ramaswamy will launch a campaign for governor in Ohio early next week and is parting ways with President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, two sources familiar with his plans told NBC News.

Ramaswamy’s interest in seeking office in his home state is not a surprise. But his decision to leave DOGE now removes him from the high command of a federal spending watchdog group that he was supposed to run with Elon Musk, the billionaire Tesla CEO and owner of X.

“He’s leaving DOGE. He’s going to announce early next week for governor,” said one of the sources, who was granted anonymity to discuss preparations for a campaign that has not officially launched. “It became increasingly clear over the last week that pursuing the governor’s race and running DOGE was not compatible. He’s leaving on good terms with Trump, Elon and the team.”

Despite what the media was originally reporting, all seems good between Vivek and Elon Musk.

Vivek Ramaswamy himself shared a photo of the two together this afternoon at the Inauguration:

It seems that Ramaswamy’s departure from DOGE was purely political.

He simply feels that he can serve better in a governmental position, as governor of Ohio, as opposed to running DOGE alongside Elon.

Good luck Mr. Ramaswamy in your future endeavors!
