Trump Administration SHUTS DOWN CBP One App Within Minutes Of Taking Office

If anybody had any doubt that President Donald Trump would hit the ground running after Monday’s swearing-in ceremony, his administration’s actions within minutes of the inauguration should put them to rest.

The immigration issue proved to be a priority, with a slate of executive orders expected and a major move by the new leaders of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

According to The Hill:

Trump administration officials minutes after the new president took office on Monday shut down a mobile app for migrants to make appointments at the U.S.-Mexico border.

By shutting down the CBP One app, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials essentially canceled all outstanding appointments made by migrants without visas who sought to enter the United States through legal ports of entry.

The app shutdown is part of a series of moves by the incoming administration to crack down on the border, even as migration has decreased significantly in the past six months.

According to CBP numbers, U.S. officials encountered 96,048 foreign nationals at the border in December. About half, 48,722, presented at a port of entry to get formal admission into the United States.

The app has drawn a significant amount of criticism throughout the Biden administration. News of its shutdown sparked celebration from advocates for a stronger border while evoking dismay from undocumented immigrants and open-borders activists.

The New York Post reported on the response from south of the border:

Footage taken by a Washington Post reporter in Juarez, Mexico, showed migrants who had been waiting for appointments they’d scheduled through CBP One weeping at the gates of America after they learned the app had been shut down and their appointments scrapped.

They were just a few of roughly 270,000 migrants estimated to be waiting on the Mexican side of the southern border who had been hoping to make it into the country before Trump took office, according to CBS News.

Trump’s ending of CBP One is likely to face legal challenges, especially since the US refugee law still requires asylum seekers to be processed and heard at ports of entry in much the same way CBP One allowed.

Here’s a 2023 clip of Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) raising serious concerns about the app:
