Vivek Ramaswamy is no longer part of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), officials confirmed after President Trump’s inauguration.
“Vivek Ramaswamy played a critical role in helping us create DOGE,” commission spokesperson Anna Kelly said, according to the Associated Press.
“He intends to run for elected office soon, which requires him to remain outside of DOGE, based on the structure that we announced today. We thank him immensely for his contributions over the last 2 months and expect him to play a vital role in making America great again,” Kelly added.

From the Associated Press:
The Department of Government Efficiency’s first order of business was itself: It’s now down to one leader.
Vivek Ramaswamy is no longer part of the commission that President Donald Trump championed, officials confirmed hours after the Republican took office Monday, and that leaves billionaire Elon Musk to run the cost-cutting operation alone.
Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur who sought the GOP nomination for president in 2024, has signaled plans to run for governor of Ohio next year. A native of Cincinnati, Ramaswamy, 39, had shown interest in Vice President JD Vance’s recently vacated Senate seat before Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine chose Lt. Gov. Jon Husted as Vance’s successor.

From POLITICO:
Ramaswamy, the entrepreneur who was tapped by the president-elect to co-lead his cost-cutting efforts with Elon Musk, is leaving the initiative to run for governor of Ohio, according to a person close to him who was granted anonymity to speak freely.
Ramaswamy’s exit clears the path for Musk, the top donor and confidant to Trump, to run the show at DOGE. The departure also follows Ramaswamy irking some Republicans in MAGA world.
POLITICO reported Sunday that Ramaswamy could resign from DOGE before launching a bid. Ramaswamy also met with Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine this month about filling the Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance, but DeWine passed over him in favor of his Lt. Gov. Jon Husted.
The person close to Ramaswamy said he expects to kick off his gubernatorial bid next week.
