BREAKING: Vivek Ramaswamy ‘Has Worn Out His Welcome’, Leaving DOGE Co-Chair (Or… Is He?)

On the eve of an inauguration he helped hype in a strange but invigorating partnership with Elon Musk, change is in the air for Vivek Ramaswamy.

His no-nonsense infusion of fiscal common sense, alongside Elon Musk, was a huge selling point for millions — or at least the icing on the cake.

But there have been moments of intense friction publicly, particularly the whole H-1B immigration uproar that seemed almost ready to shred the cohesion President Trump had built among Americans.

The word on the street (at least one side of the street…) is that Ramaswamy has stirred up a little too much strife, and behind closed doors isn’t quite carrying his fair share of the weight on DOGE.

He is allegedly set to step down from that partnership with Elon specifically because of that friction, and maybe even some pushback from President Trump.

Or… is he?

That is the news being carried far and wide, re-posted on social media.

And it is starting to spread across the news feeds like wild fire.

But is it true?  I’ll level with you — I’m not sure, yet.  But here’s what I’m seeing.

Check out news guy Eric Daugherty’s post where he highlights the primary story, primarily being pushed by CBS:

Here’s the full text of Daugherty’s post for easier reading:

JUST IN: Vivek Ramaswamy is expected to step away from DOGE – CBS

“Vivek has worn out his welcome,” one person close to Trump said.

CBS: “People close to [Elon] Musk have privately undercut Ramaswamy for weeks, frustrated with his lack of participation in the heavy lifting, according to sources familiar with the internal dynamics. There has been friction between the incoming rank and file DOGE staff and Ramaswamy, the sources said, and Ramaswamy has been subtly encouraged to exit.

I’ll say it up front; that could all very well be the truth of the matter.

DOGE is not an official government position, and Vivek has had his eye on several OFFICIAL political positions that may seem more lucrative to him in more ways than one.

It is possible that he has decided that (for instance) the governorship of Ohio carry him towards his goals for change more effectively than spending his time with DOGE (which will likely carry on winningly with or without him).

But it is also possible that the left, democrats, and CBS are conspiring to re-introduce some turmoil on the eve of President Trump’s inauguration.

In fact, I’d say that’s a fair assumption whether Vivek is leaving DOGE or not, and regardless as to the reason.

Vivek is set to announce his intention to run for the governor of Ohio soon, according to the same story that initiated the claims that Vivek is being more-or-less pushed out of DOGE as reported by CBS:

Vivek Ramaswamy, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with entrepreneur Elon Musk, is expected to soon step away from the task force, CBS News has learned. Ramaswamy intends to announce a campaign for Ohio governor as soon as the end of January, multiple sources confirmed to CBS News.

Ramaswamy, 39, had no comment.

The CBS story goes on to couch Ramaswamy’s imminent departure from DOGE in an atmosphere of friction with Elon Musk, Elon’s team, and even with President Trump:

People close to Musk have privately undercut Ramaswamy for weeks, frustrated with his lack of participation in the heavy lifting, according to sources familiar with the internal dynamics. There has been friction between the incoming rank and file DOGE staff and Ramaswamy, the sources said, and Ramaswamy has been subtly encouraged to exit.

“Vivek has worn out his welcome,” one person close to Trump said.

Ramaswamy recently met with the Ohio’s sitting governor, Mike DeWine, about the state’s Senate seat left vacant by Vice President-elect JD Vance. But on Friday, DeWine announced he is appointing his lieutenant governor to the post.

I’m starting to wonder if the reason CBS reported Vivek Ramaswamy “had no comment” was because he was asked and refused to comment, or because he hadn’t responded by the time CBS went to press with the story.

There’s a big difference there, and a history of shady reporting to go along with it.

That said, CBS wasn’t the only news organization reporting that Vivek would be leaving DOGE.

Politico also ran a similar story, though without leaning on the unnamed sources that CBS used with stories of friction and a dissatisfied President Trump.

The most likely reason for Vivek leaving would have more to do with Vivek’s desire to run for Governor of Ohio — particularly after the current Governor passed over Vivek as a potential replacement for JD Vance’s Senate seat — according to the report by Politico:

Ramaswamy’s potential exit could upend DOGE, which aims to reduce government spending by up to $2 trillion by July 4, 2026 — by which time his Ohio gubernatorial campaign will need to be well underway. Following the election, Ramaswamy informed members of the transition that he planned to run for governor, said a person familiar with the transition.

Ramaswamy’s decision accelerated when Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine passed over Ramaswamy to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance in the Senate on Friday, picking instead his own Lt. Gov. Jon Husted.

Multiple people who discussed Ramaswamy and the inner workings of DOGE were granted anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly and to freely discuss sensitive issues.

On Saturday, Ramaswamy showed up at an all-hands DOGE meeting at the SpaceX headquarters in Washington, according to two people familiar with the department’s inner workings. Musk was not present.

But there are at least a few circumstantial signs that would seem to counter CBS’s assertion that Ramaswamy is on the outs at DOGE, or that President Trump is upset with him, or even that Vivek is truly planning on running for that governorship spot.

Check out Vivek’s post from late Saturday night:

That doesn’t sound like a guy who is planning on jumping ship in any way to me.

It could be that he is simply trying not to make waves on the eve of President Trump’s inauguration before announcing a different direction; maybe.

But there’s also this:

Vivek is still playing key leading roles, including introducing heads of state at Inaugural Balls in DC.

Not to mention he actually talked about DOGE while introducing the President of Argentina!

Again — that doesn’t sound like a guy who is necessarily planning on bailing.

But maybe even more contradictory to the CBS story than anything else is President Trump’s own words earlier this evening.

Speaking at his “Victory Rally” in DC, President Trump approvingly mentioned Vivek in relation to DOGE cost cutting!

Is it possible that Vivek is planning on leaving, pushed out by the friction that CBS has alleged, and he hasn’t told President Trump? — Possibly.

But I feel like if that was the plan, he would have at least given President Trump the heads up.

Is it possible that happened, and President Trump is just playing along until after the inauguration?

Again, possibly — but that doesn’t seem like the way President Trump would want to start off his administration.

I highly doubt President Trump would go along with “faking it” if that were the case.  I would expect Vivek would simply pull back, and be kept out of the spotlight until after the inauguration.

And it certainly doesn’t look like he’s being kept away from the spotlight.

So, what’s the verdict?  Is Vivek on the way out — either because he’s being forced out because of friction, or because he sees a different option he’d rather pursue?

Or is CBS still up to the same old tricks that democrats are known to pull, trying to sow a patch of sour apples at an opportune time?

At the moment, I can’t answer that with certainty.

For the time being I am filing this under “developing story”.  I’ll keep my ears perked up and my nose to the ground, and I’ll report back as soon as more information becomes known.
