Proposed Legislation Would Rename American Airport After President Trump

A Tennessee lawmaker has proposed legislation to rename Nashville International Airport (BNA) to Trump International Airport.

Republican State Rep. Todd Warner introduced the bill.

Per WZTV:

Republican State Representative Todd Warner filed the proposal Friday that would rename the increasingly popular BNA after the president-elect.

This would not be the first time a lawmaker has pressed to rename an airport after Trump. Republicans in Virginia proposed renaming their Dulles airport the Donald J. Trump Airport back in April of 2024, while Trump was still just a nominee for president.

WPLN News reports:

The proposal from Rep. Todd Warner, R-Chapel Hill, comes two years after statehouse Republican clashed with Democratic-leaning Nashville over control of its Airport Authority Board. After months of legal battles, Nashville regained autonomy over the airport.

The bill also echoes another 2023 proposal that would’ve renamed John Lewis Way “President Donald Trump Boulevard.” At the time, Metro Councilmember Zulfat Suara had criticized the decision to take the name away from the Civil Rights hero during Black History Month.

The renaming would’ve also removed protections for the street under the Tennessee Heritage Protection Act, which prevents the removal, relocation or renaming of a memorial.
