In the more than two months since President Donald Trump’s decisive Election Day victory, he has announced a string of nominees and appointments to various standard positions.
He recently added three very familiar names to the list, though they will be filling a new type of ambassadorial role right here in the United States.
BREAKING: Trump has just named THE PATRIOT, MEL GIBSON as Special Ambassador to Hollywood, California – along side fellow legends Sylvester Stallone and John Voight.

In case it’s difficult to read Trump’s initial post, here’s a transcript:
It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California. They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK- BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!
For his part, Gibson said he was “surprised” by the honor and is ready to serve, per Entertainment Weekly:
Mel Gibson, who was among the trio of actors named a “Special Ambassador” and “Special Envoy” to Hollywood in a Truth Social post from the president-elect, tells Entertainment Weekly that he didn’t know about the position until Trump publicly announced it. “I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised,” the Apocalypto filmmaker says.
However, Gibson is prepared to perform his duties — whatever they may be. “Nevertheless, I heed the call,” he says. “My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can. Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?” (Gibson’s concluding quip would seem to be a reference to him recently losing his Malibu home to the Palisades fire.)
ADVERTISEMENTGibson was one of three conservative-leaning actors named in Trump’s announcement, along with Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight. “It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump wrote.
The new Hollywood ambassadorships sparked significant discussion on social media:

Fox News reported on the development, recalling Stallone’s remarks in support of Trump at a post-election event:
“We are in the presence of a really mythical character. Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off, so I’m in awe,” the actor said.
“When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world because, without him, you could imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We’ve got the second George Washington. Congratulations!”
