‘The View’ Co-Host Joy Behar Mocked By Former Colleague Over ‘Selfish’ Attack On Carrie Underwood

When country music star Carrie Underwood confirmed she would be among those performing at President Donald Trump’s inauguration, she immediately opened herself up to politically motivate backlash.

Right on cue, “The View” co-host Joy Behar unleashed an on-air tirade packed with personal attacks against the singer.

One of her former colleagues, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, was among the many individuals who were upset by the ad hominem assertions, as Fox News reported:

Hasselbeck hit back at Behar’s comments and “The View” for “refusing to put people around their discussion table with a lick of sense most days.”

“When those comments got passed around, even Whoopi Goldberg couldn’t agree with the outlandish remark of Joy Behar,” Hasselbeck told “Hannity” Tuesday night.

Listing off Underwood’s history of being pro-American, Hasselbeck lambasted Behar’s claims about the singer, calling her statements “ridiculous.”

“She wants us to believe that [about] Carrie Underwood, who won ‘American Idol’ by American votes, who had an album and tour called All-American Girl, who actually has spent more time on USO tours, serving and helping and donating money to our nation’s finest, our military, their families and our veterans – is about to perform ‘America the Beautiful’ at the historic event of the inauguration of the President of the United States of America.”

The former co-host said that Behar’s motivation for these comments was nothing more than a “selfish publicity gain” by attaching her name to Underwood.

“She wants to attach her name to Carrie Underwood’s name so that she maintains relevance because they know the ship is sinking,” said Hasselbeck, explaining how Behar’s “dysmorphic lie” has to be extinguished from the air.

Here’s a sampling of the other social media responses:

Though not exactly a ringing endorsement of Underwood, co-host Whoopi Goldberg did chime in with a somewhat more rational take on the singer’s decision to perform at next week’s ceremony.

According to The National News Desk:

Whoopi Goldberg, who co-hosts “The View,” said Tuesday she stands behind singer Carrie Underwood, who will perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration next week.

Underwood is expected to sing “America the Beautiful” on Monday shortly before Trump takes the oath of office.

“I stand behind her. If she’s – ” Goldberg said before co-host Sunny Hostin interrupted with “or not.”

No, not ‘or not,’ because if I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform some place, I believe they have the same right,” Goldberg continued.Earlier, Hostin noted artists have a right to perform wherever they want, even though she would decline an invitation to sing at an inauguration for Trump.

“I think art is art, and, you know, you have a right to perform where you want to perform. I agree with you, Joy, I can’t sing a lick, but I – and I have not been asked – but if I were asked, it would be a hard ‘no,’” she said, speaking to Joy Behar, another co-host.

Behar explained she would not sing at an inauguration for Trump so as not to “normalize” him.
