‘Discard It Immediately’: Grocery Chain Announces Recall in 31 States Over Uncommon Contamination

The past few years have been littered with food recalls, though most are standard precautions such as after cross-contamination with a possible allergen.

One popular product sold by Aldi in states across the U.S., however, was recalled due to the possibility that metal could be found inside the frozen entree.

As Fox Business reported:

The recall affects the 20 oz. boxes of Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos that have a UPC code of 4061459337471. The best-by dates of the recalled products are 07/02/25 and 9/25/25.

The product was distributed to Aldi locations in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

“ALDI puts the safety and integrity of the products it sells first,” the company said in a statement. “If customers have products affected by this recall, they are advised to discard it immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund.

“ALDI sincerely regrets the inconvenience and concern caused as a result of this recall.”

Frozen food recalls involving metal contamination are uncommon, but not extremely rare. Last August, Perdue Foods LLC recalled over 165,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and chicken tenders over reports of metal contamination.

Of course, this is just the latest such announcement involving products sold by Aldi and other major grocery chains:

CBS News provided additional coverage of the recall:

Shipped to Aldi stores across the country, the problem came to light after a consumer notified Valencia, California-based Bestway Foods of finding a piece of metal in the product. Another person reported a dental injury from the product to the USDA’s Food and Inspection Service.

Produced on July 3, 2024, and September 25, 2024, the recall involves nearly 25,000 pounds of frozen chicken and cheese taquito products. The affected products are 20-ounce carton packages of Casa Mamita Corn tortillas filled with chicken, cheese, diced tomatoes and green chiles with best-by dates of July 3, 2025, and September 25, 2025.

The packaging contains the establishment number “EST. P-40327.”
