WATCH: Protesters Interrupt Pete Hegseth’s Senate Confirmation Hearing

Military veteran and former Fox News Channel personality Pete Hegseth was the first of President Donald Trump’s nominees to face a confirmation hearing before the U.S. Senate on Tuesday.

After he was nominated to lead the Department of Defense under the second Trump administration, Hegseth was hit with a series of sordid allegations about his personal life in an attempt to derail his confirmation.

He addressed such accusations with emphatic denials during Tuesday’s hearing:

At one point, the proceedings were interrupted by multiple protesters who heckled Hegseth in an attempt to bring attention to their leftist cause.

According to the New York Post:

The anti-war organization Code Pink was present Tuesday for Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing — with leaders of the group filming as at least three hecklers bellowed at the defense secretary-designate before being ejected, with at least one of them literally carried out of the room.

The hecklers were focused on US support of the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip and it was not immediately clear if all of them were affiliated with the activist group, though their shouts mirrored the messaging on signs toted by Code Pink leaders at the hearing.

Medea Benjamin, a longtime ringleader of anti-war activism in Washington, brandished a sign saying “No Hegseth No Crusade” while her associate Tighe Barry, dressed in a pink faux-military outfit, held a sign saying “No Christian Jihad.”

The first heckler to interrupt Hegseth’s opening remarks called him a “misogynist” and a “Christian Zionist.”

Other notable moments from the hearing have been shared extensively online:

Here’s what one GOP lawmaker had to say about the attacks on Hegseth, per Fox News:

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., slammed what she described as “anonymous smear campaigns” against Pete Hegseth , as President-elect Trump’s nominee to lead the Pentagon faced the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“I think any any concerns that they had specifically regarding the anonymous smear campaigns were actually addressed by Mr. Hegseth in his opening. and so I think that he’s very qualified,” she told Fox News Digital’s Julia Johnson.

“The one thing that I would like to see in our next secretary of defense, which he checks that box, is that he has combat experience. we need people that have served in the front lines and understand the gravity of their decisions and that it will impact people, it is a life and death decision so we’re very supportive of his nomination,” she said.

“I think he has the votes for it today. So we’ll run through this process, but we’re looking forward to a great Secretary of Defense,” she added.

The outlet also shared a clip showing hecklers interrupting the hearing:
