3 Officers Shot In D.C. Shooting


Three D.C. police officers were shot on Monday after a suspect opened fire inside a lobby in a residential building in Northeast D.C.

A man fired shots inside an apartment building lobby in the 300 block of Florida Ave NE on Monday morning.

As the officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he fired shots, which resulted in officers firing back and killing the armed suspect.

Three D.C. police officers were shot and one suspect was killed Monday after police said he opened fire twice in the lobby of a residential building in Northeast, police say.

A man fired shots in an apartment building in the 300 block of Florida Ave NE, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith said. Officers responded about 4:30 a.m. to a 911 call.

Officers encountered the shooting suspect in the apartment lobby of i5 Union Market, and he ran into an elevator, Smith said.

A few minutes later, the suspect exited the elevator and again ran into officers in the lobby, Smith said. The officers tried to take the suspect into custody, according to Smith.

The suspect fired a handgun and officers shot back, the chief said.

The incident occurred in an apartment building in the 300 block of Florida Avenue NE at around 4.30 a.m.

Pamela A. Smith, the chief of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPD), said that the officers are in a stable condition in hospital.
