Petition For “Immediate Recall” Of Los Angeles Mayor Gains Massive Support

A petition calling for the “immediate recall” of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has quickly surpassed 60,000 signatures.

“We, the undersigned residents of Los Angeles and concerned citizens, urgently call for the immediate recall of Mayor Karen Bass due to her gross mismanagement and failure to effectively respond to the devastating 2025 fires in and around the city of Los Angeles,” the petition reads.

“In the wake of these catastrophic fires, our city has been left in crisis. Water supplies have been severely strained, billions of taxpayer dollars have been misallocated or left unaccounted for, and countless lives have been lost. Families have been displaced, homes destroyed, and livelihoods shattered—yet Mayor Bass has been absent from the frontlines, choosing to travel abroad while her constituents suffer,” it adds.

From the New York Post:

Bass was 7,400 miles away in Africa, at the inauguration of Ghana’s president, as flames began engulfing the City of Angels.

“Families have been displaced, homes destroyed, and livelihoods shattered –- yet Mayor Bass has been absent from the frontlines, choosing to travel abroad while her constituents suffer,” reads the petition, which calls for “a full, transparent investigation into the failures in disaster preparedness, response, and resource allocation that left [LA] vulnerable.”

Bass slashed $17.6 million from the Los Angeles Fire Department’s budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year — which critics blasted as “a bad call.”

Nearly 130,000 Californians have been under evacuation orders, and 11 people have perished.

Per FOX 11 Los Angeles:

Calls for Mayor Bass’ resignation intensify as Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley says budget cuts hindered the department’s wildfire response.

“My message is the fire department needs to be properly funded,” Crowley told FOX LA. “It’s not.”

In the 2025 fiscal year, the Los Angeles Fire Department saw a $17.6 million budget reduction. Crowley noted that call volumes have doubled since 2010, while the city has fewer fire stations and firefighters.

Bass defended the budget cuts during a Thursday press conference, saying they did not affect the city’s response. Crowley disagreed: “Yes, it was cut, and it did impact our ability to provide service.”

The petition made the following demands:

1. The immediate resignation of Mayor Karen Bass due to her failure to lead during this unprecedented crisis.

2. A full, transparent investigation into the failures in disaster preparedness, response, and resource allocation that left our city vulnerable.

3. Accountability for the mismanagement of taxpayer funds intended for disaster relief and recovery.

4. A comprehensive plan for ensuring the safety of all Angelenos in the face of future disasters.
The people of Los Angeles deserve a leader who is present, accountable, and actively working to protect and serve our community. Mayor Bass’s actions—or lack thereof—have shown she is unfit for the office she holds.

At the time of writing, the petition has surpassed 70,000 signatures.
