‘The Power Of Cringe’: Video Montage Of Democratic Senators Goes Viral For All The Wrong Reasons

As President Donald Trump prepares for his second term in the White House, his many political foes on the other side of the aisle seem to be getting desperate in their attempts to deliver a contrary message to the American people.

One recent example involved a social media compilation video featuring a procession of Senate Democrats.

As Fox News chronicled, the public response was packed with biting mockery:

In the video, Senate Democrats spoke directly to the camera, promising to work with “anyone” that would make life better but would oppose President-elect Donald Trump and Republicans if they “do things to hurt you.”

Several Democratic senators, who are from close states or are up for re-election, were noticeably absent from the video. Sens. John Fetterman, Pa., Jeanne Shaheen, N.H., Maggie Hassan, N.H., Ruben Gallego, Ariz., Mark Kelly, Ariz., Jon Ossoff, Ga., Gary Peters, Mich., Chris Murphy, Conn., did not appear in the video.

Conservatives and others on social media mocked the video for being out of touch, with one user saying Democrats are still wondering how they lost the last election and that this video would help them win over voters.

Here’s a sampling of the backlash:

According to The Hill, Senate Democrats will face a challenge to their legislative agenda almost immediately after Trump’s inauguration next week:

Democrats will face an early test on how to navigate immigration under President-elect Trump on Thursday when the Laken Riley Act becomes the first bill to hit the Senate floor.

The bill, which would mandate federal detention of immigrants without legal status accused of theft, burglary and other related crimes, is set to become the first item voted on by the GOP-controlled Senate.

The measure marks an opening salvo by the new majority as it tries to put Democrats in a tough spot from the outset on an issue that proved perilously difficult for them to handle throughout the 2024 election, giving Trump and Republicans a boost in the process.

“Everyone’s got to make their decisions,” Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) said, adding that he is not worried about this issue dividing the Senate Democratic Caucus. “We’ve accepted the need to do serious reform on immigration. A lot of us supported the bipartisan immigration bill that was pretty heavy on enforcement.”

Early indications are that a sizable group of Democrats could not only vote to advance the bill, but would support the current version in a final floor vote.

Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.), who was among the group of Senate Republicans who reintroduced the bill in the 119th Congress, told the Senate GOP during a lunch Wednesday that the bill has the requisite Democratic support to overcome a filibuster Thursday, two sources told The Hill.
