According to an employee memo obtained by Axios, Meta is scrapping its major diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs.
The change is effective immediately.
The memo said the company was changing course because the “legal and policy landscape surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the United States is changing,” Axios noted.
Meta is the latest American corporation to terminate DEI programs before President Trump takes office.

Per Axios:
The moves come just three days after Meta ended many of its efforts to fact-check and police speech on Facebook, Instagram and Threads.
The announcement also follows a host of public moves by tech companies and executives to align with the politics and cultural views of President-elect Trump and the MAGA movement.
ADVERTISEMENTFriday’s memo by Gale — announcing changes to “our hiring, development and procurement practices” — was posted for Meta employees in Workplace, the company’s internal communications tool.
“The legal and policy landscape surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the United States is changing,” Gale wrote.
“The Supreme Court of the United States has recently made decisions signaling a shift in how courts will approach DEI. … The term ‘DEI’ has also become charged, in part because it is understood by some as a practice that suggests preferential treatment of some groups over others.”
“Meta is ending DEI. Only days after @finkd (Mark Zuckerberg) promised to end biased fact checks, now his company is ending DEI. I warned Meta in October that they were one of my DEI targets for 2025,” Robby Starbuck wrote.
According to Starbuck, this is what’s changing at Facebook and Instagram:
• Meta will no longer have a DEI team.
• Meta will end supplier diversity efforts.
• Meta will end the practice of requiring that diverse candidates be considered jobs. They’ll focus on merit going forward.
• All DEI representation goals for hiring are being eliminated going forward.
“We told the media this would happen and many laughed in my face. I wonder what the look on their face is today? I can’t do a video on this one because of the snowstorm but I’m sitting back and enjoying every second of this,” he added.

Fox Business reports:
Meta’s announcement comes after it announced earlier this week that it would end its fact-checking program.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is planning to replace them with community notes similar to those on X.
Several other prominent companies have rolled back DEI policies in recent months.
McDonald’s announced on Monday that it was ending some of its DEI policies, saying that while it’s committed to inclusion, it dropped its “aspirational representational goals,” as well as ending its DEI pledge for suppliers. The company also changed the name of its diversity team to the Global Inclusion team and ended external surveys on the subject.
The fast food giant’s decision followed similar changes made in 2024 by Walmart, Ford Motor Co., John Deere, Lowe’s and Toyota.
