President Trump Takes Aim At Gavin Newsom Over California Wildfires

President Trump rightfully called out California Gov. Gavin Newsom over the wildfires absolutely annihilating Los Angeles right now.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump put the blame on Gov. Newsom for California’s struggle to contain the fires.

He pointed out how “Gavin Newscum” refused to sign a water restoration declaration that would have diverted water from excess rain and snowfall in the North to California in favor of saving a type of fish called a smelt.

Let that sink in: Gavin Newsom put the needs of a fish over those of the people he was elected to govern.

What a scumbag.

This isn’t the first time that President Trump has mentioned Gavin Newsom’s failure to put the needs of the people of California first when it comes to wildfires.

Three months ago, he told Joe Rogan the same thing:

In 2018, President Trump also advised Gavin Newsom on proper forest management to contain wildfires:

But, of course, Gavin didn’t listen.

And now, here we are.

Californians are losing their homes and their lives due to liberal ‘environmental protection’ laws that put the lives of a tiny species of fish over the lives of actual humans.

The New York Post provided some additional background on Trump’s battle with Newsom over California’s water supply:

President-elect Donald Trump blamed California’s Gavin Newsom for the ‘apocalyptic’ wildfires ravaging the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles — claiming he chose to save an extinct tiny fish species, instead of sending more water to southern California…

Trump has long supported diverting supply from California’s main water hub, the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, to farmers who have sturggled with repeated droughts.

But his plans faced resistance from environmental groups that argued they would disastrously hurt the population of delta smelt – small fish that were once crucial California’s ecosystem, but has since been rendered effectively extinct.

Trump first promised to redirect California’s northern runoff south to benefit farmers during his first presidential bid in 2016, and made good on his promise in 2020 with a federal memorandum that redirected millions of gallons of water he said was otherwise “needlessly flushed” into the ocean, according to Courthouse News Service.

But days later Newsom’s administration sued to block Trump’s move, and succeeded in limiting the amount of water that can be pumped from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

The two politicians have spent the ensuing years duking it out over the state’s water plans – which are regulated by both state and federal laws.

And yet, Gavin Newsom is still refusing to take any responsibility.

Here’s how his office responded, per NBC News:

In a statement responding to Trump’s post, Newsom’s Director of Communications, Izzy Gardon, accused the president-elect of “playing politics” while the wildfires continued to wreak havoc in southern California.

“There is no such document as the water restoration declaration – that is pure fiction. The Governor is focused on protecting people, not playing politics, and making sure firefighters have all the resources they need,” Gardon said.

NBC News then went on to explain the exact memorandum that President Trump was referring to:

Newsom on Tuesday declared a state of emergency over the fires, which have left around 400,000 without power as of Wednesday afternoon. Biden on Wednesday issued a major disaster declaration, clearing the way for federal assistance in the region.

It appears that by mentioning a “water restoration declaration,” Trump was referring to a presidential memorandum he signed in early 2020 that sought to divert water from Northern California to farmland in the center and the south of the state.

“[It’s] going to give you a lot of water, a lot of dam, a lot of everything. You’ll be able to farm your land, and you’ll be able to do things you never thought possible,” Trump said at an event announcing the memo in California in 2020.

On the day of his announcement, Newsom and then-California Attorney General Xavier Becerra denounced Trump’s move, calling it a “harmful attack on our state’s critical ecosystems and environment.”

Newsom said, “We will file legal action in the coming days to challenge the federal biological opinions to protect highly imperiled fish species close to extinction.”

And, there’s even more to the story that President Trump didn’t touch on in his Truth Social post.

Libs of TikTok pointed out:

This isn’t just ignorance — it’s gross incompetence at this point.

Or maybe it’s intentional:
