LA Mayor Returns From Trip to Ghana, Refuses to Answer Questions About Wildfires Destroying City

While her city was burning, the mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass was very busy.

Fighting wildfires?

Diverting water into the completely empty fire hydrants?

Nope.

She was busy in Africa, attending the inauguration of Ghana’s new president.

It certainly looks like Mayor Bass had a lot of fun during her trip!

Good for her.

But don’t worry, she’s back in LA now.

And, refusing to take any questions about the wildfires blazing her city.

She might as well have just stayed in Ghana.

Residents of LA are not to happy with Ms. Karen.

The New York Post reported:

Furious Los Angeles residents tore into their absent Mayor Karen Bass, who was 7,400 miles away in Arica on a political trip as raging fires turned the City of Angels into an apocalyptic hellscape Tuesday.

“RESIGN! WHY ARE YOU IN GHANA?!,” one person commented on an X post by Bass’ office giving an update on the wildfires.

Bass traveled with three other people to Ghana for the inaguration of President John Dramani Mahama, who was elected last year.

“Hey Karen! How’s Ghana?” another person asked. “LA you ask? Yeah it’s burning to the f–king ground but it’s better you’re not here anyways because you’re useless.”

Others demanded that Bass, who took office in 2022, resign from her post.

“You’re a disgrace & embarrassment to our country,” one comment read.

“You need to resign you incompetent fool,” said another.

Newsweek added:

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has been criticized after it emerged she was out of the country, attending a presidential inauguration in Ghana, as northern and western suburbs of her city were hit by devastating wildfires fanned by high winds.

Media outlet INKL News reported this morning that Bass was on her way back to Los Angeles and should return to the city within hours…

Bass had been in Ghana as part of a four-member U.S. presidential delegation attending the inauguration of new Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.

She has come under attack for not returning to the U.S. sooner in response to the infernos, with Caruso telling local network Fox 11 that there had been a “failure” of leadership and management adding that “everybody knew these winds were coming” so the risk should have been anticipated.

Caruso also questioned why brush in the hills surrounding Los Angeles hadn’t been removed to reduce the fire risk and claimed a “reservoir was not refilled in time and in a timely manner to keep the hydrants going,” which he blamed on city authorities.
