Nurse Arrested After Multiple Newborn Babies Have “Unexplained Fractures” In Hospital

Virginia police have arrested a former nurse in connection to a terrifying incident that left multiple newborn babies with “unexplained fractures” in a hospital.

Authorities charged Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman, 26, with malicious wounding and felony child abuse.

“Henrico Police has arrested and charged a Chesterfield County woman in connection to an ongoing investigation involving a Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU),” Henrico County Police stated in a press release.

“Currently, the Henrico County Police Division is utilizing all available resources to ensure a thorough
investigation into this matter. This involves reviewing dozens of videos from inside the NICU. As previously mentioned, detectives are re-examining the 2023 and 2024 cases as part of this broader investigation,” it added.

From the New York Post:

In December, Dominique and Tori Hackey spoke out about how they were heartbroken to discover their premature baby Noah suddenly couldn’t move his leg at the hospital in September 2023.

“It was kind of discolored. I told the doctor on staff, got some x-rays, and we determined he had a fracture to his leg, so we are going to splint it for the next two weeks, and then she was like do you want to hold him?” Dominique Hickey told WTVR.

“In my mind I’m like, I don’t want them to turn it around on us and say we broke his leg or anything like that so I was like, ‘No, we don’t want to hold him, we are just going to process this,’” he said.

The hospital is currently no longer accepting babies into the neonatal intensive care unit out of abundance of caution — and has taken steps to beef up security.

“In late November/December, we discovered that three babies in our Henrico Doctors’ Hospital NICU had unexplainable fractures, similar to an incident involving four babies in the summer of 2023,” the hospital said in a statement on Dec. 24.

“We initiated a thorough internal investigation, informed the families and notified the proper authorities and regulatory agencies and worked collaboratively with them on their investigations.”

Per Fox News:

The 26-year-old suspect, Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman, was booked into the Henrico County Jail on charges of malicious wounding and child abuse that caused serious injury around 1:15 a.m. Friday.

A perplexing string of injuries to babies in the NICU at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond in November and December prompted officials to launch an internal investigation and close the unit to new patients on Christmas Eve.

Public records show Strotman’s registered nurse’s license was first issued in 2019 and is valid until May 2026.

“In late November/December, we discovered that three babies in our Henrico Doctors’ Hospital NICU had unexplainable fractures, similar to an incident involving four babies in the summer of 2023,” the hospital said in a statement.

Concerned parents reported the injuries to Child Protective Services last year.

“Finally we can get some answers as to who abused our son. I wish I could say it was a happy moment learning of her arrest, however, learning the details involving the other babies, the only feeling I have is sadness and regret,” Dominique Hackey, the father of one of the victims, told Fox News Digital Friday. “I am heartbroken to learn the degree in what this person was allowed to get away with, and regret that I should’ve spoke up sooner in hopes to prevent other children from getting hurt. “
