Ex-Public Schools Chief Found Dead Amid Child S*x Abuse Material Investigation


Former Jeffco Public Schools chief David Weiss, who was in charge of 150 schools was found dead in Maryland on Wednesday.

He was recently fired amid a criminal investigation over possession of child s**ual abuse material.

Despite his death, the investigation will continue.

He was terminated on December 19, but details of the case were previously undisclosed.

The district has remained tight lipped about the entire investigation. Parents have been begging for transparency.

This is a TOP position. He was in charge of over 150 schools and nearly 70,000 students.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colorado — Weeks after he was fired amid a criminal investigation, the former chief of Jeffco Public Schools has been found dead in Maryland.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland notified the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday that they were conducting a death investigation related to David Weiss.

A spokesperson for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Weiss was found dead around 9:30 Wednesday morning and they believe he died by suicide. An autopsy is being done to officially determine the cause and manner of death.

He had been visiting family in Maryland when he died, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was conducting an investigation into Weiss that involved possession of child sexual abuse material. That investigation will continue despite his death, the sheriff’s office said.

Weiss was the chief of schools for Jeffco until he was terminated on Dec. 19. At the time, neither the district nor the sheriff’s office shared details about the criminal investigation.

The school district said the chief of schools leads the Department of School Leadership and reports to the deputy superintendent. The position oversees increasing student achievement, quality school leadership and school effectiveness for Jefferson County’s schools and their communities.
