President Trump and J.D. Vance Issue Statements Following Mass Casualty Event In New Orleans

President Trump called the mass casualty event in New Orleans early New Year’s Day an “act of pure evil.”

“When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true. The crime rate in our country is at a level that nobody has ever seen before. Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department,” Trump said Wednesday morning.

“The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil!” he added.

“Heartbreaking violence last night in New Orleans. Such a beautiful and great American city. May God bless the victims and their families,” Vice President-Elect J.D. Vance said.

According to Fox News, at least 10 people were killed and 35 injured when a male suspect drove a pickup truck into a large crowd on Bourbon Street.

The suspect died after a shootout with police.

Per Fox News:

Fox News has learned that the truck used in the attack had a Texas license plate, and that it was tracked crossing the southern border into the U.S. at Eagle Pass, Texas, on November 16.

It has not been confirmed that the attacker was driving the vehicle when it crossed the border. Police have also not confirmed the attacker’s immigration status. The identification of the driver who crossed the border does not appear to be the shooter, the sources said.

The FBI is investigating the attack as an act of terrorism.

From the New York Post:

The FBI is investigating a bloody New Year’s truck rampage on New Orleans‘ iconic Bourbon Street as an act of terrorism — and have confirmed the driver of the pickup who killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more is dead.

“This morning, an individual drove a car into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing a number of people and injuring dozens of others. The subject then engaged with local law enforcement and is now deceased,” The FBI said in a statement.

“We are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism,” the bureau added.

The still-unidentified killer ploughed a Ford pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers in the heart of the city around 3:15 a.m., leaving what witnesses described as a trail of “twisted” and “horribly disfigured” bodies in its wake.

After the truck — which was trailing a piece of black fabric — crashed into a crane blocking Bourbon Street, the killer engaged police in a firefight and was shot dead. Two officers were wounded in the shootout, but are in stable condition, officials said.

At least 35 people were injured, while the FBI said “improvised explosive devices” were found in the car, suggesting the carnage could have been even worse if law enforcement hadn’t stopped the killer.
