Miami Teammates Get Into Fight During Bowl Game


Players from the University of Miami got into a fight during their bowl game versus Iowa State.

Senior Simeon Borrow Jr. threw a punch at freshman Marquise Lightfoot during the Pop Tarts bowl game.

After Borrow thee a punch, Lightfoot shoved Borrow back before the two were separated.

From what we all see on social media, the Pop-Tarts Bowl is full of hilarious content.

But there appeared to be an incident during the game Saturday between two Miami Hurricanesthat led to blows.Senior Simeon Barrow Jr. and freshman Marquise Lightfoot were separated after Barrow Jr. threw a punch and Lightfoot shoved Barrow.The Hurricanes did not want to play Saturday. They had controlled their own destiny heading into the College Football Playoff, but after losing to Syracuse in the final week of the season, they were knocked out of the ACC title game, and eventually, the tournament.

The brouhaha came after a high-scoring first quarter in which the Hurricanes allowed 21 points to Iowa State. The Cyclones won the game, 42-41.Cam Ward, a likely first-round selection in the NFL Draft, only played in the first half, exiting the game after Miami had regained a 31-28 lead before halftime.

Fights aren’t all that uncommon in college football. Fights that start between teammates in a game are, however.

During the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Saturday, a pair of Miami football players got in a scuffle on the sideline, which was shown on the ESPN broadcast. It’s unclear as to what led to punches being thrown.

The fight was between defensive linemen Simeon Barrow Jr. and Marquise Lightfoot, the latter of whom appeared to throw the first punch after the apparent argument. The punch came on the sideline during the game against Iowa State.

Lightfoot, a true freshman, hasn’t accumulated any stats in 2024, whole Barrow Jr., a senior transfer from Michigan State, has been one of the Hurricanes’ most productive defensive players this season with 5.5 sacks and 28 total tackles.
