JUST IN: University of Iowa Shuts Down Gender, Women’s & Sexuality Department

Schaeffer Hall, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

Wow, this is some great news.

The University of Iowa just announced that it’s officially closing its “Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies” department, along with eliminating degrees in “Social Justice.”

Check it out:

This is a major blow to woke leftism on college campuses and just the kind of thing we need to see the quality of education turn around in America.

The Iowa Board of Regents also recently approved measures to cut back on DEI hiring.

From Mediaite:

The University of Iowa has announced a plan to close the Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies department and end the Social Justice major by mid-2025, as DEI initiatives throughout the state are being scaled back.

Before the closure was announced, Iowa’s state board of regents approved recommendations to scale back funding for DEI initiatives in Iowa. The university plans to replace the department with a new major in Social and Cultural Analysis.

“Under the proposed plan, the college would close the departments of American Studies and Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies, as well as the current majors in American Studies and in Social Justice, which have fewer than 60 students combined, and create a new major in Social and Cultural Analysis,” the university in a press release earlier this month.

The University of Iowa isn’t the only one to cut back on DEI programs recently.

Fox News reported on similar actions being taken by other academic institutions:

The University of Iowa is not the only academic institution that is changing its stance on DEI programs in recent months.

The University of Michigan ended its requirement for DEI statements on faculty hiring, promotion and tenure this month. The University of Austin (UATX), a private liberal arts university, also replaced DEI with merit-based initiatives this year.

Some states, including Florida, have restricted or banned funding for DEI in state institutions.

With all the heated talk lately about hiring U.S. workers vs. importing foreign ones, this step taken by a major public university is really good to see.

Making our Schools Great Again in order to increase the number of skilled, (actually) educated American workers is part of the solution.

I hope we see other universities starting to follow suit and eliminate woke programs in favor of actually, you know, teaching practical skills and information.
