The Biden administration, and the left in general, have made it a priority in recent years to welcome as many undocumented immigrants into the U.S. as possible, promising them a bevy of taxpayer-funded benefits upon arrival.
But with President Donald Trump heading back to the White House, those days are about to be over. Tom Homan, his pick to serve as border czar, has made it clear that he intends to crack down on so-called sanctuary cities and recently referenced one case that he said exemplifies the problem.
As Breitbart reported:
During an interview with the Fox Business Network on Tuesday, incoming Border Czar Tom Homan stated that the illegal immigrant suspected of murdering a woman on the New York City subway system by setting her on fire got government benefits, but his victim and some homeless people in New York don’t.
Homan said, “[Y]ou think about it, this illegal alien that burned this young lady alive, he probably had a free hotel room, three squares a day, … gets free medical attention, … but this young homeless person, she [doesn’t] have anything and she died a horrendous death.”
The subway incident triggered a wave of backlash against the left for implementing open-borders policies and creating an environment in which good Samaritans are afraid to help fellow citizens in distress:
What kind of mind sees a woman sleeping peacefully on a subway, decides to set her on fire, sits down and watches her burn, and then walks back towards her to fan the flames as she dies?
That's not just evil – that's something beyond comprehension. pic.twitter.com/YyPaJrK0o3

My reputation as a liberal on most issues is indisputable.
That said…
I have never seen a stronger argument for concealed carry of firearms than a woman burned alive on the subway while police stood there on video doing nothing to protect her. pic.twitter.com/yGK9IVYqNG

This is, by far, the most powerful commentary I have seen regarding the woman who was burned to death on the New York City subway by an illegal alien. 👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/eDsCElxisk

Homan previously denounced Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for touting subway safety measures even after this distressing attack.
According to Fox News:
“Governor Hochul, shame on you. There’s nothing you can say that’s going to make this right in New York,” President-elect Trump’s incoming border czar Tom Homan said Monday on “Fox & Friends,” as he slammed the Democratic official for supporting sanctuary status in the Empire State.
In an X post on Sunday, approximately eight hours after the incident, Hochul claimed that crime has decreased on NYC subways since she deployed the National Guard to mitigate the issue earlier this year. Hochul sent 750 National Guard members to the subways last week in an effort to keep holiday crime in check.
“In March, I took action to make our subways safer for the millions of people who take the trains each day,” Hochul’s post read. “Since deploying the @NationalGuardNY to support @NYPDnews and @MTA safety efforts and adding cameras to all subway cars, crime is going down, and ridership is going up,” she wrote.
As for those who believe his plans for a secure border and enhanced law enforcement are somehow racist, Homan recently offered his blunt response:
