Officials said a dead body was discovered in the wheel well of a United Airlines plane when it landed in Maui.
Flight 202 departed Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Tuesday around 9:49 a.m. and arrived at Kahului Airport about 2:12 p.m.
“The wheel well was only accessible from outside of the aircraft. At this time, it is not clear how or when the person accessed the wheel well,” United Airlines said in a statement, according to Hawaii News Now.
“United is working with law enforcement authorities on the investigation,” the statement added.
The Maui Police Department is conducting an investigation.
A person has been found dead in the wheel well of a United Airlines 787 at Maui’s Kahului Airport.

Officials did not immediately have an explanation for the grisly discovery. Sources told local outlet Hawaii News Now that the body was male.

The cops added in a statement, “The Maui Police Department is currently conducting an active investigation regarding a deceased individual discovered on an incoming flight from the mainland this afternoon.
“At this time, no further details are available.”

Hawaii Department of Transportation officials also confirmed the gruesome discovery on the plane.
It comes on one of the busiest travel weeks of the year as millions take flights during the holidays.
The Transportation Security Administration expects to screen 40 million passengers through January 2.
Airlines expect to have their busiest days on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
