Riding horses can be a source of relaxation or adventure, but these massive creatures can also pose a serious risk to humans.
Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen found that out the hard way when he was bucked from the horse he was riding and sustained serious injuries that required hospitalization.
Fox News reported the following:
Pillen was rushed to Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Nebraska, before he was transported, out of an abundance of caution, to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
“The Governor is alert and is in continuous touch with his team,” Pillen’s office said.
Pillen’s office did not detail what injuries he suffered or the severity.
The GOP governor was elected in 2022, running in the gubernatorial election that year because former Gov. Pete Ricketts, also a Republican, was term-limited.
Well-wishers took to social media to shared their thoughts:

Current administration:
Horses need more regulation, air bags, reduced emissions.
You must be licensed to ride.
Your horse must be registered.
You can only ride on weekends.
Most importantly: you must be fully vaccinated…for your safety— Faithful D🇺🇸 (@guywhogolffs) December 23, 2024
The Hill also provided coverage of the incident:
“The Governor is expected to remain at UNMC for several days,” Pillen’s office added.
Pillen began serving as governor last year. In the 2022 Republican primary, he toppled a candidate backed by President-elect Trump.
“Gov. Pillen and his family are very appreciative of the thoughts and prayers given to them by Nebraskans and they wish all Nebraskans a very merry Christmas,” Pillen’s office said.
