Senate Democrats Introduce Bill to Abolish Electoral College

A bill has just been introduced into the Senate that would abolish the Electoral College, so that future presidents would be elected by popular vote only.

The bill was introduced by a group of Democrats who claim that getting rid of the Electoral College would “restore democracy” to our nation.

Take a look:

From The New Republic:

A group of Senate Democrats introduced a bill Monday to abolish the Electoral College.

U.S. Senators Brian Schatz of Hawaii, Dick Durbin of Illinois, and Peter Welch of Vermont introduced a constitutional amendment to install a nationwide popular vote in presidential elections. Currently, a network of 538 electors represent the 50 states, and whichever candidate secures at least 270 electors is declared the winner.

The Senate Judiciary Committee posted on X Monday that the bill advocated “restoring democracy by allowing the direct election of presidents through popular vote alone.”

A press release from the group said that 17 states and the District of Columbia had agreed to bypass the Electoral College and allocate their electoral votes to the winner of a nationwide popular vote.

Democrats would have you believe that the Electoral College, which traditionally favors Republican candidates, is an outdated concept that suppresses the people’s choice.

In reality, abolishing the Electoral College would swing things in favor of Democrats by making it so that big cities with large, liberal populations could greatly influence the vote.

Abolishing the Electoral College is unconstitutional and goes against everything the Founding Fathers put in place to ensure that all Americans, regardless of whether they live in rural or urban areas, get a voice.

Many folks on X are not fooled:

Not to mention: a bill couldn’t change the Constitution.

Also, even if Democrats had abolished the Electoral College prior to 2024, President Trump still would have won!

They must be very salty about this.
