DEVELOPING: Multiple Fatalities Reported In Shooting At Christian School


At least two individuals have been killed and six others sustained injuries in a shooting at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin.

Police reportedly said the suspected shooter was found deceased at the scene.

According to Fox News, police responded to reports of an active shooter at the Abundant Life Christian School at approximately 10:57 a.m. local time.

A deceased “juvenile” at the scene is believed to be responsible for the shooting.

In an updated briefing, Madison Chief of Police Shon Barnes said three people died and seven others were transported to area hospitals.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said at least two people in addition to the shooter were killed, and six others have been transferred to a nearby hospital with injuries. Barnes would not clarify whether the deceased individuals were students or teachers.

He said officers did not fire their weapons when responding to the scene.

“This is something you prepare for, but that you hope you never have to do,” a police spokesman told reporters. “Today is a sad, sad day.”

Barnes clarified that the injuries range from “minor to life-threatening.”

“I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond,” Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers commented.

Officials are working to reunite students with their parents. About 390 students from kindergarten through 12th grade attend the school.

Jill Underly, Wisconsin’s superintendent of public instruction, stressed the need for change, saying in a statement, “This tragedy is a stark reminder that we must do more to protect our children and our educators to ensure that such horrors never happen again. We will not rest until we find solutions that make our schools safe.”

“The time for change is long past,” Underly said.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers wrote, “I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., tweeted, “I have been briefed on the active shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison and my heart goes out to all those impacted. My office is in touch with local and state officials, and I stand ready to assist law enforcement and anyone affected.”
