Former Maryland Governor Slams Federal Government After He Spots Drones In His Hometown

The appearance of large, unexplained drones in the skies over New Jersey and beyond in recent weeks has caused significant public concern without any meaningful updates from federal authorities.

When former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, noticed some objects flying overhead in his neck of the woods, he didn’t waste any time identifying those he insists owe Americans an explanation.

According to Fox News:

“The government has the ability to track these from their point of origin but has mounted a negligent response. People are rightfully clamoring for answers, but aren’t getting any,” Hogan wrote.

“We are being told that neither the White House, the military, the FBI, or Homeland Security have any idea what they are, where they came from, or who has launched or is controlling them–and that they pose no threat.

“That response is entirely unacceptable. I join with the growing bipartisan chorus of leaders demanding that the federal government immediately address this issue. The American people deserve answers and action now.”

The issue has fueled seemingly endless speculation on social media:

The New York Post covered Hogan’s recent remarks in the context of the Biden administration’s threadbare reaction to the sightings:

The White House, FBI and DHS have all said that while they do not know what the objects are, they do not currently pose a threat to national security or public safety — and that they are not being identified as being from a foreign source.

“We have not been able to, and neither have state and local law enforcement authorities, corroborate any of the reported visual sightings,” White House national security council spokesman John Kirby told reporters at a briefing on Thursday.

Kirby added: “Upon review of available imagery, it appears many of the reports of sightings are actually manned aircraft that are being operated lawfully.”

New Yorkers have also spotted the alleged drones in the sky near the city — but Gov. Kathy Hochul told residents not to panic.

“We know New Yorkers have spotted drones in the air this week & we are investigating. At this time, there’s no evidence that these drones pose a public safety or national security threat,” Hochul wrote Friday on X, saying New York is cooperating with the FBI and DHS to “protect New Yorkers.”
