UPDATE: Nancy Pelosi Breaks Hip After Falling Down the Stairs During Overseas Trip

Earlier today, we reported that Nancy Pelosi had been hospitalized after suffering a serious injury during an overseas trip.

At the time, the exact details of what happened and what that injury was were not revealed.

Now, it turns out that Nancy Pelosi has fractured her hip from falling down a marble staircase in Luxembourg, Germany during a congressional delegation to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Pelosi is currently receiving medical treatment in a local hospital there, and a spokesperson has said that she is still able to work, but not to attend any remaining engagements during her trip.

But, anyone who has ever witnessed a loved one fall and break their hip knows that this is not an easy recovery in old age.

Here’s everything we know:

Before suffering the nasty fall, a frail Nancy Pelosi was pictured in Luxembourg clutching the hand of another congressman for support.

This is just getting sad, tragic, and dangerous — for both the elderly Congressmen and women like Pelosi and McConnell who keep hurting themselves, as well as for our nation!

The New York Times reported:

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized on Friday after being injured while traveling abroad on a bipartisan congressional delegation to Luxembourg, a spokesman said on Friday.

Ms. Pelosi, 84, “sustained an injury during an official engagement,” the spokesman, Ian Krager, said in a brief statement that provided no details on the nature of the injury or how it occurred. He said she was admitted to a hospital for evaluation.

Ms. Pelosi tripped going down marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace and took a hard fall, according to a person familiar with the incident who was not authorized to comment and spoke on condition of anonymity.

People close to Ms. Pelosi in California and Washington, D.C., speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for her, said the former speaker fractured her hip when she fell. They said doctors were confident the damage could be repaired with a routine operation, but it was not yet clear whether that would be done in Luxembourg or in the United States.

The former speaker was traveling with colleagues from the House and the Senate to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge when she fell.

After her injury, she was set to miss the remainder of her official engagements, according to Mr. Krager.

The statement said that Ms. Pelosi was working from the hospital and “currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals” and that she “looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon.”

The New York Post added:

Pelosi, 84, joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers to cA photo snapped of the delegation of House and Senate lawmakers on the Friday trip showed the ex-speaker clutching House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul’s hand at the palace.

“I’m disappointed Speaker Emerita Pelosi won’t be able to join the rest of our delegation’s events this weekend as I know how much she looked forward to honoring our veterans,” McCaul (R-Texas) said in a statement. “But she is strong, and I am confident she will be back on her feet in no time. Praying for a speedy recovery.”

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals,” Krager said in a statement. “She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the [co-delegation’s] engagements to honor the courage of our service members during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history.”

The ex-speaker’s press rep also expressed her “thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe.”

The fractured hip can apparently be fixed with an operation, though it’s unclear whether that will take place in Luxembourg or the US, according to the Times.

The mysterious injury comes just hours after it was revealed the San Francisco Democrat, who is currently serving her 19th term, was launching a behind-the-scenes effort to thwart Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s bid to serve as the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.

Pelosi is reportedly pushing for Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), 74, over the 35-year-old New York City politician.

Her accident also comes just days after fellow octogenarian Mitch McConnell took a nasty spill in the US Capitol — and surfaced sporting a scraped face and sprained wrist.

That’s two pretty bad falls by elderly members of Congress in one week…

The need for term limits has never been so pronounced.
