Caitlin Clark was named Time Magazine’s Athlete of the Year, and she used the opportunity to speak about her “white privilege”.
Many people found that to be “off-putting”, including Megyn Kelly who wrote this in response:
Look at this. She’s on the knee all but apologizing for being white and getting attention. The self-flagellation. The “oh pls pay attention to the black players who are REALY the ones you want to celebrate.” Condescending. Fake. Transparent. Sad. https://t.co/cTzk0CTLPn

I have to say, I agree with Megyn Kelly.
It was completely unnecessary and an unforced error to talk about “white privilege”.
She was on a great path of becoming the Michael Jordan of the WNBA, both on and off the court (His Airness wisely never got ensnared by politics or social issues) until she veered off into a ditch with her comments about “white privilege”.
Then one day later she was being interviewed again and was asked about Megyn Kelly’s criticism and the criticism of others.
Here’s how she responded:
“I feel like I always have had good perspective on everything that’s kind of happened in my life, whether that’s been good, whether that’s been bad and then obviously coming to the WNBA — like I said, I feel like I’ve earned every single thing that’s happened to me over the course of my career,” Clark told NBC Sports host Maria Taylor on stage.
“But I also I grew up a fan of this league from a very young age. My favorite player was Maya Moore. I know what this league was about … it’s only been around 25-plus years, and so I know there has been so many amazing black women that have been in this league — and continuing to uplift them is very important and that’s something I’m very aware of.”
“I try to just be real and authentic and share my truth and I think that’s very easy for me,” Clark continued. “I’m very comfortable in my own skin and that’s kind of how it’s been my entire life.”
I’ve cued up the exact reaction in this video below if you want to watch:
I have to say two things….
First, I was extremely critical of the “white privilege” comments myself and I will repost that report below.
But second, I have to say watching this entire interview she comes across as very humble, very level headed and very sincere.
Caitlin, do yourself a favor and fire whoever told you to talk about your “white privilege” because they aren’t doing you any favors.
Just be yourself.
Oh and one more thing….not to nitpick, but at one point she references the classic liberal phrase: “my truth”.
Caitlin Clark uses the phrase “my truth” as she’s discussing her “white privilege”, letting us know she’s gone. It’s over. She’s been captured. pic.twitter.com/v1pjb8kXZF

Sorry Caitlin, that does not exist.
There is objective truth that is true no matter what you think about it, and then there are Opinions, which everyone is free to have.
But blending the concepts into “my truth” is not an option that’s available.
