‘Those Words Matter’: Sen. Mike Lee Calls Out NBC Host For Omitting Six Words During President Trump Interview

President Donald Trump sat down for a wide-ranging interview with NBC News host Kristen Welker, who once again wore the network’s bias on her sleeve.

During one portion of the interview, Welker responded to Trump’s point about birthright citizenship with a reference to the U.S. Constitution.

As Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) pointed out, however, she skipped over one very important aspect of the relevant clause.

Fox News covered the development:

The senator continued to break down the issue in a lengthy 12-part thread.

“Congress has the power to define what it means to be born in the United States ‘and subject to the jurisdiction thereof,'” he wrote.

” While current law contains no such restriction, Congress could pass a law defining what it means to be born in the United States ‘and subject to the jurisdiction thereof,’ excluding prospectively from birthright citizenship individuals born in the U.S. to illegal aliens.

“Those who suggest Congress is somehow powerless to limit birthright citizenship ignore important constitutional text giving Congress power define who among those ‘born in the United States’ is born subject to the jurisdiction thereof.’

“It bothers me that@MeetThePress, long revered as America’s leading Sunday political news program, has become so one-sided,” he continued.

Other aspects of Welker’s questioning during the interview drew social media backlash:

Welker seemed preoccupied with one line of questioning in particular, as the Daily Caller reported:

“Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker on Sunday asked President-elect Donald Trump more than a dozen times about whether he would use the levers of power to target his political rivals.

Trump nominated former Republican Attorney General Pam Bondi of Florida to be attorney general and former Trump administration official Kash Patel to be director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in November. Welker asked Trump on “Meet the Press” about a list of people Patel listed as members of the “deep state” in a book, and repeatedly pressed the president-elect about whether he would target his political opponents.
