UK’s Most Popular Baby Name Is No Longer “Noah” — Can You Guess What It Is?…

In 2022, the most popular name in the United Kingdom for baby boys was Noah!

Can you guess what it is now?

If you guessed Muhammad, you’d be correct.

According to just-dropped data from the United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics, over 4,600 baby boys were registered with the name Muhammad for the year 2023, overtaking Noah and claiming the number one spot.

Take a look:

Since 2016, the name Muhammad has been one of the top 10 baby names in the United Kingdom due to mass Muslim migration.

The Muslim population in Britain has more than doubled since 2001.

Fox News reported:

The United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) recently revealed that “Muhammad” has become the most popular name in England and Wales among newborn baby boys.

The ONS declared in a new data report on Thursday that the name – most prominently associated with Islam’s founder and most prominent figure, the Prophet Muhammad – finally claimed the top spot in 2023 and onward.

“Muhammad has overtaken Noah as the top name for baby boys in England and Wales, followed by Noah and Oliver,” the report stated.

It added, “Muhammad was the second most popular name in 2022 and has been in the top 10 most popular names for baby boys in England and Wales since 2016.”

The data revealed that 4,661 baby boys were given the name in 2023, just beating out the 4,382 boys named Noah that year. Oliver was third, with 3,556 babies given the name, followed by George, Leo, and Arthur.

NewsMax added:

The rising popularity of “Muhammad” is attributed to it religious significance, an ONS spokesperson told The National. Muhammad was the founder of Islam and is considered a central figure in the religion. The Muslim population in England and Wales more than doubled in 20 years, from 1.5 million in 2001 to 3.9 million in 2021, according to the ONS.

“The name remains dominant among Muslims, but its rise coincides with increasing diversity in names for baby boys generally,” the ONS told The National. “It could also be becoming more popular among Muslims living in the UK to remind them of their heritage growing up in a non-Muslim country.”

In addition to “Muhammad,” “Mohammed” and “Mohammad” are also in the top 100 baby names for male infants because the ONS does not combine spellings.

UK is certainly diverse…can’t argue there!

And, in case you were wondering, because I had to look it up for myself after reading this, the most popular baby boy name in the United States is…Liam — with Noah also claiming the #2 spot!

I guess we just can’t match UK’s “diversity” (nor would I want to…)

Maybe Donald will top the charts in 2025!
