The media-induced controversy surrounding Pete Hegseth as the next Secretary of Defense is at a fevered pitch.
So is Hegseth’s determination, judging from his interactions with reporters today.
The attacks against President Trump’s choice to head the Pentagon during his 2nd term started as soon as Trump announced his pick, as reported in this Associated Press article from 3 weeks ago.
Pete Hegseth, the Army National Guard veteran and Fox News host nominated by Donald Trump to lead the Department of Defense, was flagged as a possible “Insider Threat” by a fellow service member due to a tattoo on his bicep that’s associated with white supremacist groups.
Hegseth has complained that he himself was labeled an extremist by the D.C. National Guard and said he was prevented from serving during Biden’s inauguration, a few weeks after the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, because of a cross tattoo on his chest. He said he decided to end his military service shortly after that in disgust.
Of course, all of that (and many other media-initiated controversies surrounding Hegseth) have since been debunked or at the very least proven speculative.
And not only debunked, but much of what has been hurled at Hegseth has been rendered absolutely disingenuous; contrived attempts to sideline President Trump’s agenda to fix what is wrong with this country at every step of the way — beginning with his nominations for key leadership roles.
I’m a bit nerdy when it comes to ancient symbols (more on that later, I’m sure), so when Pete Hegseth’s chest tattoo was called a swastika or white suprematist symbol, I was appalled.

Here’s the full text of that explanation — and it is perfectly on point and factual. (As opposed to “salacious and controversial”, as the media would prefer.)
I’m a bit nerdy when it comes to ancient symbols (more on that later, I’m sure), so when Pete Hegseth’s chest tattoo was called a swastika or white suprematist symbol, I was appalled.
No. This is a Jerusalem Cross. An ancient and beloved symbol in many Christian circles.
Depending on who you ask, the five crosses may symbolize the Five Wounds of Jesus (hands, feet, and side), Jesus and the four evangelists (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), or Jesus and the four corners of the world (north, south, east, and west).
It originated during the Crusades, and in modern Christianity usually represents evangelism and mission works, or possibly spiritual warfare.
Pete also has “Deus Volt” tattooed on his right arm, which translates “God will it.” This also originated during the Crusades as a battle cry, meaning, “No matter what happens, God, I trust / honor / serve you.”
The sectioned snake tattoo was drawn by Benjamin Franklin as a political cartoon which urged the early American colonies to unite together against tyranny, AKA “big government.”
Honestly, I think these tats are awesome. The history and heritage represented is incredibly rich and beautiful.
Everything from the Jerusalem Cross, the disjoined “Join or Die” snake designed by Benjamin Franklin, and the Deus Vult tatoos are first and foremost classical orthodox expressions of faith and loyalty in their most widely accepted capacities.
Nothing sinister — unless you’re willing to twist reality to make it so; as many have done.
If you drink coffee in the morning, just like a white supremacist… it doesn’t make you a white supremacist.
Even if the white supremacist makes a show of identifying his white supremacist ideology by an attempt to connect it to the fact that he drinks coffee every day; that’s no reason to demonize drinking coffee every day, unless you’re a moron.
Or… the media, with an agenda.
Rational people will recognize that drinking coffee every day is hardly tied to one’s racial ideology.
Equally rational people will recognize that when those same white supremacists attempt to hijack the legitimate, good, and wholesome expressions of your faith-based worldview, some of us are revolted at the idea of abandoning those symbols as “lost”.
Some of us would rather double down, and emblazon them on our bodies in bold defiance of what is evil… and in flagrant open allegiance to what is GOOD.
Those people are fighters.
Pete Hegseth is one of those people; and I believe that is the number one reason President Trump, in his “CAN NOT FAIL” mission to return this nation to it’s highest ideals, decided that Pete Hegseth was the right man to head the U.S. defense community.
The pushback against President Trump, and Hegseth as his hopeful Secretary of Defense, continues today as the war over his nomination and confirmation heats up on Capitol Hill.
Check out Pete’s own words when confronted by a gaggle of reporters today concerning the possibility that he might bow out, give up the fight, and avoid the continued heat surrounding his nomination.

Hegseth has been on Capitol Hill today meeting with multiple Senators, including those preparing to step into leadership roles on the most influential Congressional Committees.
He is in fact holding “back to back meetings” with Senators to address the concerns being leveled at him, according to a report by Fox News.
Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump’s nominee for secretary of defense, is ramping up his pitch to lead the Pentagon with back-to-back meetings on Capitol Hill.
Since his nomination, Hegseth has been meeting privately with senators in Washington, D.C., in an effort to earn their support ahead of his confirmation hearing next year.
Hegseth was back on the Hill for a second day on Wednesday, meeting first with incoming Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., who is set to be the Armed Services Committee chair, ahead of a crucial meeting with incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D.
An email was recently leaked from Penelope Hegseth, Pete Hegseth’s mother, where she was critical of his past relationships with women. However, she joined “Fox and Friends” Wednesday morning to set the record straight and “tell the truth to the senators on the hill, especially our female senators.”
Penelope Hegseth said she wrote the email in an impassioned moment after her son’s divorce, but apologized hours after sending it. Hegseth’s mother also said she did not believe any of the accusations against him.
Multiple sources confirmed to Fox News that Trump is reportedly considering nominating Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as Defense Secretary in place of Hegseth amid the allegations against him.
But Hegseth brushed off the potential replacement, telling reporters that he spoke with Trump on Wednesday morning, who reportedly told him to “keep going, keep fighting.”
ADVERTISEMENT“Why would I back down?” Hegseth said. “I have always been a fighter. I am here for the war fighters.”
Hegseth added that he would be “meeting all day with senators.”
“I’ve been through a lot: combat tours, job changes, divorces and family challenges,” Hegseth wrote, before bashing the press for using “anonymous sources to try to discredit” him.
Prior to meetings with Senators this morning, Hegseth was asked several questions by reporters including whether or not he still had President Trump’s backing.
Hegseth indicated he had talked to President Trump earlier in the morning, and said point blank that if he didn’t want him to continue fighting, he wouldn’t be doing so.
Check out his responses in this video.

CNN, along with much of the mainstream media, has taken the stance that Pete Hegseth is on the way out of the running for Secretary of Defense, and this is a last ditch effort to see if he can outlast the media storm.

The mainstream media has in fact led much of the attacks against Hegseth, and has tried to frame the controversies they helped stir up as simply the conservatives choosing a poster-boy with demons in the closet, and then crying foul when the left justifiably attacks him.
That’s classic gaslighting — and my goodness, are they good at it!
Check out this report from today in which CNN attempts to characterize Hegseth’s direct approach to dealing with the media’s mudslinging as nothing more than a final attempt to salvage his nomination.
Hegseth, Trump’s pick to run the Pentagon, is facing skepticism from Republican senators amid reports of a series of misconduct allegations, including a sexual assault allegation, which Hegseth has denied, and claims of financial mismanagement and alcohol abuse. Some commentators are practically talking about Hegseth in the past tense and speculating about who Trump will pick to replace him. But Hegseth is fighting to save his nomination in public; he is courting not just senators on Capitol Hill, but right-wing media listeners and followers who tend to vote for those senators.
On “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” Hegseth’s attorney Tim Parlatore took aim at the anonymous nature of the media reports and referenced the defenses from Fox figures like Cain. “We have all these anonymous complaints where people are saying things, they aren’t giving any specifics, they don’t have any corroboration whatsoever, and yet the people who were also there at the time are willing to come on the record by name, on camera, and say ‘this didn’t happen.’”
The defense of Hegseth rippled across right-wing media outlets on Wednesday. Whether the commentary will influence Republican senators remains to be seen.
The majority of that story was in fact nothing more than a line by line shaming of those in the media who have dared say anything positive about Hegseth, rather than toting the proverbial party line that he is unfit to lead the Pentagon because of speculative this, or contrived that.
For a little more perspective on the other side of the argument, check out what Shawn Bryan, a USMC Combat Veteran who has worked directly with Hegseth in various capacities had to say about Pete Hegseth’s leadership and character.

“My name is Shawn Bryan. I served as the captain for New Mexico’s Vets for Freedom under the leadership of Pete Hegseth.”
“As a Marine, it was always an honor for me to represent our warriors and to follow Pete’s leadership. I even followed his leadership all the way to Iraq to observe the surge. As we were there, his bravery and character were just amazing.”
“To watch him interact. From generals to lower enlisted Marine soldier sailors, he wanted to talk to anybody he could get in front of as we came home.”
“His interactions with the Gold Star families and the true love that he had for not just the warriors, but for the families who had given the sacrifices really affected me. And over the years, Pete has always been there. No matter what was going on.”
“If there was a warrior, somebody that was down, Pete’s always been that true American patriot that wants to be there and support however he can. And I, for one, would be honored to know that he became the Secretary of Defense. Thank you.”
Hegseth posted the following photo this morning before meeting with Senators on the Hill.
Notice how much attention he gives to DEI hiring practices, the need for validating sexual identity within the ranks of America’s armed forces, or required sensitivity training for U.S. military leadership postings.
(He gives zero attention to those things. The answer is zero.)
Maybe it’s time for a @SecDef who has…

And directly following his meeting this morning with incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Hegseth dropped this bombshell.
Talk about a major announcement…
“Lethality, lethality, lethality.”
That isn’t the mantra of a political hack trying to appease those who are more focused on progressive mantras than safeguarding America and Americans.
That’s the mantra of a warfighter.
Pete Hegseth is on the media’s chopping block for one reason. It’s not that they truly worry about his tattoos. It’s not because they suspect he’s a woman-hating rapist. And it’s not because he turned to alcohol as an unfortunate — but common place — means of self-medicating after multiple combat tours.
Pete Hegseth is dangerous to those who have, and will — if given the chance — continue to run this country off the cliff to its complete destruction, while lining their own pocket books.
Pete Hegseth is a true warrior, with a fighting ethos… not a power-hungry political hopeful willing to compromise the mission for selfish purposes.
For anyone desiring to prolong their own profits by maintaining the status quo, Pete Hegseth isn’t your next meal ticket; he’s your downfall.
And as I suspect President Trump understood when he nominated him for Secretary of Defense, that’s exactly what makes him the man for the job.
