President Trump Reacts To Hunter Biden Pardon

Joe Biden granted a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, despite previously saying he would not sign a pardon for him.

“From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,” Biden wrote.

“Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges solely for how they filled out a gun form,” he continued.

“It is clear that Hunter was treated differently,” he added.

“Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision,” the statement concluded.

President Trump responded by asking if the pardon for Hunter Biden included the J-6 hostages.

“Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!” Trump said.

From The Hill:

Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement obtained by The Hill’s sister network NewsNation that “failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democrat-controlled [Department of Justice] and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system.”

“That system of justice must be fixed and due process must be restored for all Americans, which is exactly what President Trump will do as he returns to the White House with an overwhelming mandate from the American people,” Cheung added.

The president’s fellow Republicans in Congress reacted with similar disdain to Biden’s move to pardon his son.

As noted, the White House previously said Biden would not grant a pardon for his son.

Per ABC News:

In pardoning his son, President Biden spared Hunter the possibility of significant prison time stemming from convictions in two federal cases brought by Special Counsel David Weiss.

Over the summer, a jury found Hunter Biden guilty on three felony counts related to his purchase and possession of a firearm while addicted to drugs.

And in September, he agreed to plead guilty to nine tax-related charges, including three felonies, on the eve of what was expected to be a lengthy and grueling trial.

For the tax charges, Hunter Biden faced up to 17 years in federal prison and $1.35 million in fines. His gun-related conviction carried a potential of up to 25 years in prison. He was scheduled to face sentencing for both cases in the coming weeks – on Dec. 12 on the gun-related charges in Delaware, and Dec. 16 on the tax charges in California.

Trump’s reaction to President Biden’s decision to pardon his son comes weeks after the two met in the Oval Office to call for a “smooth” transfer of power when Trump returns to the White House in January.
