As President Donald Trump puts together the team he wants to help lead his second term in the White House, the process is leaving some vacancies on Capitol Hill.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), for instance, has been selected as Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State. As such, Gov. Ron DeSantis will be tasked with choosing the person who will fill Rubio’s seat for the remainder of the current term.
This week, DeSantis offered some insight into that process.
Senator Marco Rubio is expected to resign from the Senate to assume duties as Secretary of State when the Trump administration takes power on January 20th, creating a vacancy roughly two months from today.

As The Hill reported:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Monday that he will likely make a decision on who will replace President-elect Trump’s secretary of State pick Sen. Marco Rubio (R) in the upper chamber by January.
“We have already received strong interest from several possible candidates, and we continue to gather names of additional candidates and conduct preliminary vetting,” DeSantis wrote in a post on the social platform X.
