Fired Crew Leader: FEMA’s “Best Practices” Included Skipping Over Pro-Trump Homes, Not Isolated Incident

According to a recently fired FEMA crew leader who worked in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Milton in Florida, workers in Florida and the Carolinas were told to avoid homes that displayed flags or signs promoting President Trump — and according to Marn’i Washington, FEMA leadership is well aware of the policy.

For some background, check out this clip of Adam Smith, who heads a private rescue organization, talking about the incidents as they first came to light on Fox News.

The following CNN story did not mention Washington by name, and in fact there is some controversy about whether Marn’i Washington is the FEMA worker who is cited in the CNN reporting.  Washington however claims that she was in fact fired verbally, but has not seen paperwork to that effect.  She also claims she is being used as a scapegoat by FEMA, while the policy is widely used by workers in the field per leadership directives.

A Federal Emergency Management Agency employee has been fired after they advised their disaster relief team to avoid homes with signs supporting former President Donald Trump while canvassing in Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, the agency’s administrator said Saturday.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell called the actions of the employee “reprehensible” and said they have been terminated from their role.

“More than 22,000 FEMA employees every day adhere to FEMA’s core values and are dedicated to helping people before, during and after disasters, often sacrificing time with their own families to help disaster survivors,” Criswell wrote in a post on X before describing the employee’s actions. “This is a clear violation of FEMA’s core values & principles to help people regardless of their political affiliation.”

“This was reprehensible. I want to be clear to all of my employees and the American people, this type of behavior and action will not be tolerated at FEMA and we will hold people accountable if they violate these standards of conduct,” she added.

But according Washington, that is not the case.  She claims FEMA leadership is aware of the policy of “best practices”, and is simply using her as a scapegoat to hide the intentional policy of discrimination in a disaster scenario against an entire swath of the population because of their political views.

The Daily Wire has reported on these incidents, and shared this to their X account allegedly showing a list of “best practices” for workers to follow with “avoid homes advertising Trump” listed near the top of the list.

The government employees told The Daily Wire that at least 20 homes with Trump signs or flags were skipped from the end of October and into November due to the guidance, meaning they were not given the opportunity to qualify for FEMA assistance. Images shared with The Daily Wire show that houses were skipped over by the workers, who wrote in the government system messages such as: “Trump sign no entry per leadership.”

“I know they’re short-staffed, I thought we could go help and make a difference,” one of the employees said. “When we got there we were told to discriminate against people. It’s almost unbelievable to think that somebody in the federal government would think that’s okay.”

The employee said it felt wrong to discriminate against Trump supporters when they were at their “most vulnerable.”

“I volunteered to help disaster victims, not discriminate against them,” the employee said. “It didn’t matter if people were black, white, Hispanic, for Trump, for Harris. Everyone deserves the same amount of help.”

The FEMA agents ordered not to help houses with Trump signs were operating in Highlands County, a deep-red area located in south central Florida that backed Trump by 70% on Tuesday. It was hit with tornadoes, torrential wind and rain, and flooding when Milton hit in October.

Although FEMA senior leadership has been adamant that this was an isolated incident and not part of a larger organization-wide policy to discriminate against Trump supporters, Congressman Greg Steube (Rep FL) has told Fox News that this was not an isolated case, and that there is evidence Washington DC leadership was directing this protocol.

According to Fox News, FEMA has admitted the incident happened, but is not saying if the bureaucrat involved has been fired.

“FEMA admits this happened but doesn’t say if the bureaucrat responsible has been fired,” the House Oversight Committee wrote on X. “Democrats relentlessly defend the rules that insulate unelected bureaucrats from accountability and make it nearly impossible to fire bad employees. This is why we need President Trump’s reforms to make bureaucrats accountable.”

In a statement on X, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that his administration is launching an investigation into FEMA.

“The blatant weaponization of government by partisan activists in the federal bureaucracy is yet another reason why the Biden-Harris administration is in its final days,” DeSantis said. “At my direction, the Division of Emergency Management is launching an investigation into the federal government’s targeted discrimination of Floridians who support Donald Trump.

As the dust settles from the epic victories by President Trump and those fed up with the nonsense that has devastated the United States for the past four years, I suspect that more and more of these incidents will come to light.

Besides there being new leadership in areas that need to have the actions of the last few years brought to light, individuals are also losing their fear of speaking out — choosing instead to come forward and spill the beans on what they have witnessed under the Biden-Harris administration.

This is a developing story, and I suspect more information will come to light concerning these allegations.  We will bring you updates as more information becomes available.
