In a tragedy that has destroyed an entire family, a Minnesota man has reportedly killed his wife, ex wife, and two sons before taking his own life — allegedly because he believed President Trump’s victory would usher in an era of “religious zealots” burning people at the stake or crucifixions.
This is why the unhinged outright lies of the media matter. When completely fabricated narratives are concocted by twisting reality, the people orchestrating it tend to be focused on a political outcome — and that is bad enough. But real lives are often at stake.

The tragic events happened in Duluth, Minnesota and was allegedly carried out by 46 year old Anthony Nephew. According to a report in the Daily Mail, police initially discovered Erin Abramson, Anthony’s ex-wife, and their 15 year old son, Jacob, dead with multiple gunshot wounds in their home less than a mile away from where Anthony lived with his current wife and son.
Unfortunately they would later discover his wife, Kathryn Ramsland, and their 7 year old son, Oliver, dead in their own home — alongside Anthony Nephew who reportedly took his own life after committing the murders.
Anthony Nephew, 46, was found dead with a self inflicted gunshot wound inside his home on West 6th Street in Duluth, Minnesota on Thursday afternoon.
Three years before his death, he spoke candidly about the mental health crisis in the United States, warning ‘breakdowns lead to suicide – or homicide before suicide.’
His wife, 45-year-old Kathryn Ramsland, and seven-year-old son Oliver were found dead with gunshot wounds inside the home they shared with Nephew.
ADVERTISEMENTEarlier, police had made a grim discovery inside the home of Nephew’s ex, Erin Abramson, less than one mile away.
Responding to a welfare call about 2pm, police found 47-year-old Abramson and her 15-year-old son, Jacob Nephew, dead with multiple gunshot wounds.
The blended family had appeared close. Kathryn, who went by Kat, was often sharing public messages on Facebook about Erin.
The Duluth Police Department held a press conference yesterday, confirming the tragic nature of the murders and touching on the mental health aspects apparently involved in leading to this tragic outcome.

Anthony Nephew had previously shared anti-Trump messages on his Facebook account, as well as talking openly about his mental health in relation to the possibility of a Trump election win, according to the New York Post.

Before his rampage, Anthony Nephew had been sharing left-wing and anti-Trump posts on his Facebook account.
“My mental health and the world can no longer peacefully coexist, and a lot of the reason is religion,” Anthony Nephew wrote in July.
ADVERTISEMENT“I am terrified of religious zealots inflicting their misguided beliefs on me and my family. I have intrusive thoughts of being burned at the stake as a witch, or crucified on a burning cross.
“Having people actually believe that I or my child are Satan or, the anti-Christ or whatever their favorite color of boogie man they are afraid are this week.”
In another post, he accused Republicans of “making it harder for women to leave” abusive relationships.
“Gilead here we come,” he wrote, referencing “The Handmaid’s Tale,” a dystopian novel turned Hulu series in which women, who have been stripped of their rights, are forced to reproduce for the ruling class.
Anthony Nephew shared other political posts, including an image of former president Barack Obama, Trump, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The word “hate” sits under Trump’s face, while the words “hope,” “heal” and “grow” correspond with the Democratic politicians.
Laura Lee, a reporter with Northern News Now in Duluth, shared these images of a makeshift memorial created in memory of the family following the tragedy. The memorial surrounds a free “Toy Library” created by Oliver, the youngest victim, for children in his neighborhood.

These are the stories that are hardest to write. As a father… I can not fathom the dark place you have to reach to do this to your own family. But as a news writer, I know the power of words. Truth matters, and unfortunately — so do lies.
The intentional fabrication of reality in our news media has gone unchecked for too long. I don’t claim to have the perfect answer; just the phrase “fact-checkers” immediately has me up in arms. I don’t even like the phrase, “fake news”; it seems like just another way of saying “misinformation” which has become a tool for political purposes.
I truly don’t know the answer to this question. But I know this — there is an entire family in Duluth Minnesota completely gone, and the unchecked distortions perpetuated by the news media played a role in that tragic loss. If nothing else, I pray this tragedy can serve to bring attention to the need for a return to journalistic integrity in this country.
