Just days after President Trump’s sweeping victory and obvious mandate from the people, outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell seems to be up to his old tricks — attempting to derail President Trump’s ability to enact his agenda even before he is sworn in to office.
But conservative voices are sounding the alarm. Tucker Carlson, for one, is asking the question: “What he hell is going on in the US Senate?” It seems to me that Tucker completely summarizes the problem. Mitch McConnell is doing all he can to prevent President Trump from making good on his campaign promises.

What the hell is going on in the US Senate? Hours after Donald Trump wins the most conclusive mandate in 40 years, Mitch McConnell engineers a coup against his agenda by calling early leadership elections in the senate. Two of the three candidates hate Trump and what he ran on. One of them, John Cornyn, is an angry liberal whose politics are indistinguishable from Liz Cheney’s. The election is Wednesday, it’s by secret ballot, and it will determine whether or not the new administration succeeds. Rick Scott of Florida is the only candidate who agrees with Donald Trump. Call your senator and demand a public endorsement of Rick Scott. Don’t let McConnell get away with it again.
According to a report in The Hill, Senators Thune and Cornyn seem to be working overtime to win the leadership race in the Senate, and replace Mitch McConnell. Cornyn is presumed to be the most likely winner considering Thune’s more flagrant anti-Trump positions in the past (though Cornyn actually called Trump “unelectable” at the beginning of the 2024 election cycle).
The temperature is rising in the battle to lead Senate Republicans, with Sens. John Thune (S.D.) and John Cornyn (Texas) facing a one-week sprint to win the top spot after the GOP clinched control of the upper chamber.
According to multiple senators and aides, Thune and Cornyn, along with their allies, have been burning up the phones of members in search of support ahead of next week’s election to replace outgoing Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.).
Thune, the Senate GOP whip, has been considered a slight favorite to replace the Kentucky Republican. He is the top vote-counter on the GOP side and has proven an able fundraiser and campaigner.
ADVERTISEMENTBut few are counting out Cornyn, a former whip and top ally to the outgoing leader who is considered to have strong ties with more conservative segments of the conference.
“It’s Thune’s to lose, but Cornyn’s going to make it close,” one GOP aide familiar with leadership dynamics told The Hill. “It’s going to be bloody and rough, and money is going to matter.”
Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) is also once again running for the post but is not expected to survive past the first ballot in what will be a secret tally Wednesday. The vote will only include the members who will be in office once the 119th Congress convenes next year.
But besides the drama of personalities, there is also the drama of how this leadership change is set to play out. Mitch McConnell seems to have called the leadership election early, and by secret ballot, in order to limit any influence President Trump might have on the next Senate leader — which smacks of RINO BS, to me; as it does to most of the conservative voices who have helped usher in the wave of support for President Trump on the ground level over the last few months. And they are not being quiet about it.

A wave of support for Rick Scott is emerging.

Rick Scott is fired up for the fight, and sounds determined to be the instrument by which President Trump’s agenda can be enacted in the Senate, rather than thwarted — as Mitch McConnell would prefer.
We have been given a mandate by the American people to support President Trump’s agenda and Make Washington WORK again.

I will be supporting Rick Scott for Senate Majority Leader.
The status quo of $2 Trillion annual deficits is unsustainable. @realDonaldTrump @elonmusk @TuckerCarlson @BasedMikeLee

The people who just gave Donald Trump a sweeping mandate do not want Thune or Cornyn to lead the US Senate.
They want Rick Scott. It's very clear.
Share if you agree.

Just this morning, with support for his leadership run catching traction, Senator Scott shared this clip from Fox News as he explains his intention as Senate Majority Leader, and he desire to work with — rather than against — President Trump.
The time for bold action to quickly confirm President Trump’s nominees and enact his agenda in the Senate starts TODAY.

According to a report in Just The News, Scott’s support is rising rapidly among his colleagues as well.
Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., is picking up some prominent endorsements for Senate Majority Leader, including Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Ron Johnson, R-Wis.
“President Trump needs Rick Scott as Majority Leader to shepherd his bold agenda through the U.S. Senate!” Johnson wrote on the social media platform, X.
“I will be supporting Rick Scott for Senate Majority Leader,” Paul wrote on social media on Saturday. “The status quo of $2 Trillion annual deficits is unsustainable.”
Conservative leaders including Tucker Carlson, Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk and grassroots activist Scott Pressler have endorsed Scott.
Tennessee GOP Sen. Bill Hagerty announced that he would also be supporting Scott in a thread on X.
ADVERTISEMENTScott appears to have the backing of a cadre of conservative senators, many of whom opposed McConnell’s hawkish foreign policy efforts and are more closely aligned with Trump than the old guard GOP.
Without Rick Scott, the entire Trump reform agenda wobbly.

With the “secret ballot” vote set for Wednesday, there is little time to waste if Rick Scott is going to mount a serious challenge to the status quo of the Washington swap still holding a lot of power within the U.S. Senate.
This is a developing story with the struggle over the leadership position just reaching a fevered pitch. We will bring you updates as they become available.
