Republican Congresswoman Young Kim has won her re-election campaign for her highly contested California seat in the U.S. House of Representatives — that according to NBC News which has just called the race in favor of Kim. Democrat challenger Joe Kerr attempted to unseat Kim, and even with the backing of California labor unions was unable to push back against the wave of Republican support seen nationwide this election cycle.

Here’s the breakdown at the moment that NBC’s decision desk called the race:
Rep. Young Kim is one of three Korean women elected to Congress in 2020, and has retained her seat against former Fire Captain and Union President Joe Kerr, according to San Diego NBC News affiliate covering the race.
Kim, who won the district two years ago by 14% points, ran on the platform of supporting small business, tightening the southern border and decreasing taxes.
She’s one of three Korean American women who were first elected to Congress in 2020 in the United States.
Kim faced former fire captain and union president Joe Kerr. Kerr, who served for more than 30 years with the Orange County Fire Authority.
ADVERTISEMENTKerr ran on protecting reproductive freedoms, increasing taxation on major corporations, and increasing funding to police departments, fire departments, and first responders. He was unsuccessful in his 2022 bid for a state Senate seat and the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2018.
The continued “sweep” being spearheaded by President Trump, securing the White House and both houses of Congress, is built upon wins like this. With Rep. Kim’s re-election, that is one less vote in the House of Representatives — which holds the keys to all funding bills in Congress — which could be used to negate the agenda of President Trump during his upcoming term in office.
The election isn’t over — there are plenty of races still coming down to the wire regarding Congressional seats in particular which will effect President Trump’s ability to govern according to the clear mandate he has won.
