Popular fast food chain Wendy’s has announced it will close 140 locations in the upcoming months.
The reasons behind the closings are due to the restaurants being outdated and underperforming.
There’s good news, though.
Despite closing the doors to 140 locations, Wedny’s plans to open an equal number of restaurants in different locations.
Back in May, the fast-food chain announced they would be closing 100 restaurants.

Here’s what KPTV reported:
Wendy’s announced it will be closing 140 restaurants in the coming months but plans to open an equal number of new locations in other areas.
The fast-food chain says the restaurants closing their doors are outdated and underperforming.
This round of closures is in addition to the 100 restaurant closings announced in May.
Still, the overall number of Wendy’s isn’t shrinking.
The chain is opening about 300 locations with new pick-up windows, updated kitchen appliances and spruced-up interiors.

Per USA Today:
Wendy’s is accelerating plans to shut down many of its lower performing restaurants globally while also adding a similar number of new locations, executives revealed at an earnings call Thursday.
The fast food chain will close an additional 140 locations this year, Wendy’s Chief Financial Officer Gunther Plosch said on the call. These “outdated” restaurants make far below the system average with average volume unit of approximately $1.1 million.
However, the company plans to replace these sites with more profitable locations with average unit volumes of $2 million and more.
Around 250 to 300 new Wendy’s sites were expected to have opened in 2024, Wendy’s spokesperson Heidi Schauer confirmed to USA TODAY.
“After our strategic review, we now expect a similar number of closures as openings, so we expect net unit growth in 2024 to be roughly flat,” Schauer said in a statement.
