Google has faced a number of fines and penalties around the world, but nothing compares to the ruling handed down recently by a court in Russia.
After YouTube cracked down on commentary from prominent Russian media sources, the nation began assessing fines that it says now total many, many times more than the entire world’s gross domestic product.
As Euro News reported:
Russia fined Google $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 – that’s 2.5 trillion trillion trillion dollars after the US tech giant took action against Putin’s propaganda.
Google has been fined in Russia for removing Russian TV channels from YouTube. The size of the penalty, however, swelled to an unprecedented level over the past 4 years, since the court case started in Russia against the tech giant.
The violations cost the tech giant 2 undecillion rubles or $20 decillion (a 33-digit figure), according to lawyer Ivan Morozov, cited by Russian state news agency TASS.
To put that into perspective, global GDP reaches an estimated $110 thousand billion (12-digit figure), according to the IMF.
News of the astronomical court decision soon began to spread via social media:

• Google so far has ignored their demands pic.twitter.com/aG5w55Q3aQ

Of course, Google hasn’t acknowledged the demand and likely never will, as Vice explained:
As Gizmodo’s Todd Feathers pointed out, “At that rate, it will take roughly 219 weeks before Google owes $1 googol (1 followed by 100 zeros).”
Google had a division in Russia until 2022. They have since shut it down and relocated all their Russian employees, but Russian citizens can still use Google and YouTube.
Google is likely not sweating the fine; after all, the company doesn’t even have a presence there anymore. And with four years of fines against them already, it doesn’t seem likely that Google has any intention of paying even one cent of it, especially now that the numbers are astronomically stupid.
