3 Dead After Mother “Intentionally” Went Off Niagara Falls With Two Children, Per Police


New York State police have reported that a 33-year-old mother “intentionally” went over Niagara Falls with her two children.

The tragic incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday when the mother intentionally went over a safety rail with her 9-year-old and 5-month-old at Luna Island.

Luna Island is a popular tourist attraction at Niagra Falls, which is situated between American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls.

After launching an investigation, state police revealed in a news release that “The investigation has determined that this incident was intentional in nature, though the circumstances remain under investigation.”

The woman, identified as Chianti Means, lived in Niagara Falls with her children.

A 33-year-old mother climbed over a safety rail and intentionally went over Niagara Falls with her two children, a 9-year-old and 5-month-old, according to New York state police, who said Wednesday that search and rescue efforts were unsuccessful.

Authorities responded to the park around 9 p.m. Monday and determined the family went over the rail on Luna Island, a small island between the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls that, along with the Horseshoe Falls, make up the popular tourist draw.

“The investigation has determined that this incident was intentional in nature, though the circumstances remain under investigation,” state police said in a news release.

Authorities are using unmanned aircraft and underwater units in the investigation.

A mother and her children died after crossing over a safety guard rail at Niagara Falls, police in New York said.

The act was “intentional in nature,” police said.

The incident occurred Monday night at approximately 9 p.m., according to New York State Police. Passersby reported people going into the Falls, according to New York State Trooper James O’Callaghan.

The woman, identified by police as 33-year-old Chianti Means, along with her son and daughter crossed over a safety guard rail and went over the Falls on Luna Island, police said.
