President Trump, Eric Trump And Jared Kushner Targeted By Chinese Hackers

A new report by U.S. officials revealed that hackers linked to the Chinese government targeted President Trump, Eric Trump, and Jared Kushner.

The New York Times reported that President Trump’s son Eric and son-in-law Jared Kushner’s phone communications were targeted by an elite hacking team backed by the CCP.

CNN reported, “In some cases, the hackers may have had access to the call and text data of their targets for many months, the two sources said.”

President Trump and JD Vance were also targeted, but no details were given about whether the attacks against them were successful.

Check out what CNN reported:

US officials believe Chinese government-linked hackers targeted Eric Trump’s and Jared Kushner’s call and text data as the scale of a sweeping cyber-espionage campaign targeting senior figures in both the Republican and Democratic parties comes into focus just days before the US election, with dozens of people believed to be impacted, three people familiar with the matter told CNN.

Former President Donald Trump’s son and son-in-law join a growing list of top political figures whose phone communications US officials believe were targeted by the elite Chinese hacking team. Other targets include Trump himself, his running mate JD Vance and people affiliated with the Harris-Walz campaign, CNN previously reported. The hackers also targeted prominent Democrats including the staff of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, another source briefed on the matter told CNN.

The scope of the hack is “way worse than the public knows” and officials are still sifting through the intrusions to determine the impact, another source familiar with the intelligence told CNN.

In some cases, the hackers may have had access to the call and text data of their targets for many months, the two sources said. The FBI has been notifying those whose phone data was targeted.

The New York Times was first to report that Eric Trump and Kushner had been targeted.

US officials investigating the hacking campaign, which came via intrusions at US telecom firms AT&T, Lumen and Verizon, consider it to be among the most concerning national security-related hacks in recent memory and more serious than initial press reports suggested.

Per The New York Times:

Members of former President Donald J. Trump’s family, as well as Biden administration and State Department officials, were among those targeted by the China-linked hackers who were able to break into telecommunications company systems, according to people familiar with the matter.

The sophisticated hacking operation has alarmed national security officials and appears to have targeted a substantial but focused list of people whose communications would be of interest to the Chinese government. The list of known targets is currently fewer than 100 individuals, these people said, speaking on condition of anonymity to describe a sensitive ongoing investigation.

So far, the list of targeted phones includes devices used by high-profile people, including Mr. Trump, his son Eric Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner. The list also includes members of Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign staff, as well as diplomatic, government and policy experts who are largely unknown to the general public but would hold significant interest to Chinese officials eager to learn more about internal U.S. policy-making, these people said. It is unclear what, if any, data was taken from those individuals.

In a statement, Eric Trump sought to blame the Biden administration for the hacking of the telecommunications networks, saying, “Does this surprise anyone? Under Kamala and Biden, China has walked all over our country.”
