Many Florida residents have uploaded videos of gators roaming their neighborhhods in floodwaterscaused by hurricane Milton.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, in a post on X, stated, “Alligators & snakes may be seen more frequently in areas with flooding.”

“Alligators & #snakes may be seen more frequently in areas with flooding,” the state’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission posted on social media Thursday afternoon. “Keep them at a distance & give them space.”
That’s no idle warning: Social media posts have shown alligators walking along rain-soaked streets, bellowing at the storm and even making themselves at home in a flooded house. NBC2, a television station in Fort Myers, posted a video from a viewer of an alligator chomping at a car door.

A wildlife expert has warned Florida is about to see an uptick in alligator encounters after their habitats were disturbed by Hurricane Milton’s ruthless floods.
Christopher Gillette, who operates a wildlife refuge in Putnam County, is urging Florida locals to stay alert. He said: “There will be lots of disturbed animals on the move, they’re trying to survive the storm too.”
